Ok so I just tie dyed our shirts ( never done this before).. well anywho the kit didn't say anything about wearing gloves when soaking in soda ash.. I scrubbed my hands 5 times after I soaked them so I should be fine right?
What is soda ash, anyway? I don't think it's anything toxic, or it would have warned you about it in the directions. I got some on me, but it didn't burn me or anything. So, how did your shirts come out?
Soda ash is actually lye. (I'm a soap maker, so that's how I know.) Yes, it will burn you and do you a bit of harm. If it's fairly dilute, then it will only have a minor skin irritation.
The solution - flush with lots of water and also you could pour vinegar over the burn. Vinegar is an acid to bond with the basic nature of the lye - rendering it neutral.
