What's too much?

I have Facebook and that's about it. I also have Instagram, but hardly look at it. And there's the DIS too of course.

But that's all of it. No Twitter, no Tik Tok, no Reddit, nothing. And I feel ok with that :)

It’s all down to what you feel comfortable with and whether it’s interfering with real life. If you aren’t able to be a responsible person who is contributing to society because you are always online checking your likes and posting selfies, it’s too much.

Most social media is very curated. People only show the best parts of their lives and sometimes even falsify things to keep that positive momentum going. Even here at the DIS there are some people who try to make us believe their life is one way when it’s actually something totally different. So long as a person understands that most social media is about as real as Reality TV, and they aren’t neglecting anything in their day to day life, I don’t think they need to be concerned. Many people have hobbies that take up most of their free time, whether it’s sports, collecting, photography, or engaging in social media.

The DIS is the only social media I interact with. I don’t have any accounts elsewhere. I am comfortable with that level of social media in my life.

I got on Facebook and Twitter because they were work requirements.

I will look at Twitter once in a while, but since I retired there really isn't a reason for me to check it.

Facebook, you used to have to have an individual page to be linked to a company page to be an administrator of the company page. Well people I knew and family "found" me over the years and sent friend requests. Now days it is THE way I keep up with friends and family. Granted, the view of other people you get on Facebook is VERY much a view with blinders on. Twice this year I was happy to learn two long time friends were getting married, one posting close up photos of the engagement ring. Both had been in long term relationships, The first in the following days posted a photo with the person they were marrying. There were a couple of photos of this guy in the previous months, but no idea who he is. And 5 months before she had posted photos of a vacation with the long term boyfriend. The other posted wedding videos, had said nothing, and there is no mention or photo of this guy before the wedding. It's like her long term boyfriend never existed.

I don't consider the DIS social networking just because I don't know any of the people here, that I know of anyway, since we don't use real names and I don't know where they live or look like. I am amazed from time to time that someone will mention an interaction was had a long time ago, I just don't make an effort to remember everyone's situations and I know it shows.

I use Facebook and Instagram regularly. FB more than IG. . I have “ What’s App” that I have only for my work book club.

I have Twitter and TikTok account but hardly use them. Twitter sometimes to enter contest and TikTok to view a video someone sends me. I have never posted on it.

For me, just the DIS and CruiseCritic, although I only read over there when I've got a trip upcoming and practically never post. I do use DH's FB log-in to watch Tasty videos but never, ever interact with anything or anyone.

I have Facebook and Instagram.

The Facebook belongs to my husband but we share it. I was scared to signup for my own when it first got popular. I like it because I can see my siblings and friends. I used to only play the games and got my husband hooked on Candy Crush. Everyone on there knew it was me posting, than my husband retired 2 years ago and friended all his co workers .it confused them for a bit , thought he was talking in third person…lol I post a lot of pictures of our travels and everyone tells me they love that. I don’t see family for months at a time so they always ask how our trip was . Now they know…lol

Instragram I send some to my daughter but don’t post anything. She sends me a lot too.

I use Facebook and IG to keep up with friends and family I normally never see

I use Facebook to keep up with the family happenings. I rarely post, although I do sometimes respond. I have an Instagram but I only follow people who post content that interests me and never post myself. I used to be on Threads and Twitter. I left both because they were toxic to my emotions. Of course I'm here on the DIS, and I have a Tumblr for fan stuff and I also post a lot at a Sims related forum.

Have FB for distant relatives and some friends who live in other states, but rarely post. Never saw the point of using any of those sites as some sort of daily online diary the whole world can see. Apparently some live their lives trying to impress others they have never met by bragging about where they are going, what they buy or who they are friends with. Nope, not interested. FB quietly made a change a few years ago when I can now see the posts of 'friends of friends' even if I have NO idea who they are. I thought that was a terrible idea and rarely post anymore. It did NOT use to work that way since you previously could only see the post of people you were friends with.

The whole notion that someone is considered an 'influencer' (i.e. paid advertiser) based on what they post on line has ZERO appeal to me. Many other social media sites seem like they attract people who like to argue with each other. I guess those 'keyboard warrior' types must not have much going in their life to constantly sit in from of their PC to post some angry reply to anyone who dares to disagree with them.............LOL. How childish does that even sound??? Some social media sites own/run by certain eccentric individuals pushing their own agenda is reason enough to make me NEVER want to use it.

1. I have and use Facebook/Messenger.
2. I have Instagram because DD18 likes to message me on there.
3. I have TikTok because one of my coworkers likes to send videos.
4. I have Twitter/X. I originally got it for something DIS related but I kept it around because DD15 uses it for some of her sports recruiting posts. It seems to be the most popular social media for that.
5. I'm on several Disney forums. I like the DIS for daily fun conversational stuff, but there's another one where I do my trip reports.
6. While I don't necessarily think of it as social media, I have a YouTube account. I will sometimes chat in live videos and will comment on others. I really just keep it for saving video.
7. In the same vein, I have a Flickr account that I use for photo storage. People sometimes comment on pics.
8. I have my Yahoo account enabled to make and accept comments on news articles.
9. I'm in a couple of random forums for personal things...like some car and wildlife stuff.
10. I have a TripAdvisor account. I don't do it often, but they do have travel forums where I'll periodically post.
