DS8 is in soccer this summer and my turn to bring the snack is coming up shortly. Up to now, the other parents are bringing frozen yogurt tubes, juice boxes and fruit. Does anyone have any other ideas that I could bring? I'd like to do something different from all the others.

Hmmm I have seen string cheese, cheese-its, oreo's, water bottles, gummi snacks, banannas, juice boxes....pretty much your typical snack items.

Bugles (or as they're called in the soccer world vuvuzela!!)

Is this for halftime or after the game? That makes a difference in what I'd bring. For halftime, only fruit (orange slices, grapes, watermelon), fruit snacks and/or drinks (small Gatorades or water). If it's for after the game you can do whatever you want! For that those individual bags of chips are a hit, as well as individually packaged cookies.

Depending on when the snacks will be consumed is EXTREMELY important. If it is for half-time I would reccomend oranges or watermelon. After the game, I would suggest cheese sticks and or crackers. It's important to remember that the body needs to refuel with certain foods depending on the situation.

Seriously, the only snacks I would offer at half-time our orange slices and a bottle of water. (Watermelon is good also). I know it's boring and it's fun to be the cool mom, but even sports drinks are not advised (by our coaches and I am sure this could be a debate in itself) because of the sugars and additives.

Have a great game, and hope you win!:thumbsup2

My DD played soccer last year. I brought small Gatorades (G2 -- lower sugar, but still plenty of flavor!) and fruit snacks, apples, and pretzels (snacks were given after the game)..things like that. Other parents brought Capri Sun and chips.

This reminds me of the Everyone Loves Raymond episode!!! lol just make sure you bring "list approved" snacks!! lol

No option our league. The league mandates juicy fruit for the half time snack.

Orange slices were the snack of choice when our kids played soccer. Keep in mind that these are 8 year olds and "refueling" isn't really as important as it is for older kids as these kids just don't work as hard.

I have nothing to add to what others have shared, but I have a little "soccer snack" story.

On the league dd11 played on last year, some mom brought full sized cans of Coca Cola for their post game snack! :scared1: Thats it, nothing else..

I'm not the most "vigilant" when it comes to what my kids eat/drink, but I do keep pop to a minimum for them and when I saw that I just had to shake my head.

Really, who brings Pop for a snack and after a soccer game in the heat at that? :sad2:

Okay I guess I do have an idea.....if you can swing it little bottles of chocolate milk would be perfect. There have been several studies that show it helps the body to recover after strenous exercise better than sport drinks because of the protein/carb ratio (or something like that..lol) Plus kids love chocolate milk. They'd get a "treat" that is actually good for them!
