I heard the new film is supposed to be starting June 17th. Has anyone heard if it will be closed for refurbishment before then? A few weeks ago it was on the list of refurbishments on the DL site for the end of May, but now it isn't. We will be there the first week of June, and really hoping it isn't closed!

On Disneyland website it says Soarin is closed for refurbishment June 16th. That is the only day it shows so far as the rest of the schedule is not out yet. Perhaps it only needs 1 day to change over films

Does anyone know if I can take a scooter in the line at Soarin, like you can at WDW? That line is really super long, so though I can park and wait in some lines, the Soarin line isn't a good one for me to do that in. Hoping the one in DCA is like the WDW on in that respect, if anyone knows. Appreciate any helpfu info!

Soarin' was down during the weekdays for pretty much all of March to get it ready for the new film, so I'm not surprised that it's only going to be down for 1 day to flip it over. They've already upgraded the film equipment to digital, and the rest of it is just the programming for how the seats move. In fact, when I went on it at the beginning of April, the scents weren't working. I'm guessing they're already loaded for the new film and they didn't want to switch them back.

The fact that they have both programmed at the same time makes me hopeful that at some point in the future, they may have both films running at the same time-- one on each side. I'll miss the old film.

I read an article on MC that said they were able to change to either film with a flip of a switch. don't know if that's true or not. glad that it will be only down for a day, was worried that we weren't going to be able to ride soarin if we went in June.

We did in the FP line, the stand by line looked to be designed the same. Drove it all the way inside the theater and parked it & sat down in the ride. You'll find the DCA lines accommodate scooters & wheelchairs (unlike DL) as the park was built more recently.

Edit: and you can get a wheelchair return time for lines that don't accommodate your scooter FYI.

Is this ride now going to be called Soarin Over the World?
The new film is called Soarin Over the Horizon. I noticed on the signage at Soarin Over California that the "Over California" part now is offset from the "Soarin" part which will make it easier just to flip the name to "Soarin'" like at WDW.

You can see this in this image I linked from a Google search:

There has been a lot of speculation (I think well founded) that eventually the California film will be brought back to one of the theaters so one can see Horizon in one theater and California in the other. Kind of making two rides out of one.

I really hope this is true, because while I'm excited to see the new film, for me the old ride is a classic that works so well in DCA especially, as it's Cali

I remember when they announced this at the D23 Expo and called it Soarin' Over the Horizon. The blog link you gave confirmed my memory that the Shanghai Disney ride will be called Soarin Over the Horizon. It is not clear from the blog but it seems you are right that the film is indeed called Soarin Around the World. Kind of confusing.
