Soarin

In the latest Disney Dish Podcast with Jim Hill and Len Testa, Jim states that they're filming 2 versions of the film. A Soarin over America and a Soarin over the World. Be interesting to see which films are shown where.

Well if they're smart, both films will be playing in all locations - you just won't know which one you'll get until you ride.:jumping1:

If you look here in this picture I took. There is a construction trailer on the right. The building is the Soarin Theaters. Behind the building it is all dug up and gravel. I didn't get a picture but it appeared maybe a footer or two was poured.

Wow, how did you get this view of the back of the Soarin' building? Is that Minnie in the right bottom corner:magnify: haha. Thanks for providing this view and the information.

I really like the idea of going into Soarin' and not knowing which video or "location" you will be shown each time. The element of surprise and the variety would be nice. I hope WDW somehow manages to get both the America and the World versions. LOVE me some Soarin'!

This was during the 10k run during marathon weekend.

Shanghai is supposed to debut with the world version.

This is neither rumor nor fact....but speculation on my part, but I could foresee a point where they show different movies in the different theatre and then you can pick or choose. However, I think the point of adding the third theatre isn't so much about doing that, it's about increasing capacity. I believe that they will make one of the theaters FP only, and leave the other two to standby. (Or it could be the opposite, 2 theaters for FP, 1 for standby.)

I agree with the PP that I would miss the score more than the movie. The movie was scored by Jerry Goldsmith, who has since passed away, but hopefully whoever wrote the new score would use the themes of the old one.

This would make for inefficient operations as the split between FP/non-FP guests isn't 66%, or 33%. It would be more efficient to just fill the theaters as they come, just as is done now.

Like it or not this is really why they are doing these things. TSMM is getting a third track as we speak. Remember that TSMM test for FP only that's why they did it. One track will be FP only.

I would assume same goes for Soarin. Soarin also did tests not too long ago with handing out passes for a certain time and getting rid of the stand by line that test lasted less than the TSMM one.

That may not be how they do it now, but it is likely that they will do it.

This is not unprecedented...do you notice how they sometimes load Space Mountain (back with the old FP system especially) when there was a lot of FP people they would load one track all FP and one track all Standby.

I also think if you don't think FP+ is at least 1/3 of the Soarin' crowd I would be very surprised. I've heard reports that for major attractions they go as high as 50 % on FP+. This is the REASON standby lines are so long.

Exactly with MM+ FP increased by a ton in use by guests. Many guests before didn't know about it or didn't use it. Now so many more guests are using it. with the increased usage this would be very likely.

They could do Soarin' over California, Soarin' over Florida, Soarin' over New York, Soarin over Minnesota, etc., etc. Make it like an airport with different flights to different locations. Now that would be awesome!
Totally ridiculous and expensive!

With that said... Now I want it in real life! :)

Epcot is the perfect venue for Soarin' over the World. I've thought that for years. How cool it will be if they really do that!

Soarin' expansion or Project 87 (each theater holds 87 guests) had permits filed in November for a September 2016 completion date.

From inside Soarin' -
- one new theater
- new movie will begin when new theater opens
- theaters will be designated as FP+ or Standby
- movie is being referred to as Horizons and will be a global

Deduction -
- same as movie expected to open at Shanghai Disney, which now should be before WDW Soarin' is ready
- Global would make sense with the World Showcase at EPCOT

Correct for the most part. A new permit was filed this week that expires in 2017. So I would assume it opens late 2016 early 2017. The new film has an exclusive open with Shanghai agreement then after a few months or so they can put it in DL, and WDW.

Yes, I've noticed that. I've also noticed that when one is more crowded than the other they redistribute guests to even it out. That pretty much negates the FP/non-FP distinction when you get to the ride.

The new permits expire 12/17/2017 which indicates to me that it will be well into 2017 before the new theatre opens.

thanks makes sense. It has been said the new theater will debut with the new film and the other two will go down one at a time.
