Soarin with child with CP?

So many people do forge notes even doctors note that sometimes you need some kinda notarized paper or something to prove that she/he is disabled and can’t do anything that requires a transfer from his/her wheelchair or motorized wheelchair. Since I am mobile with the ability to walk I may not be able to give better advice...

I understand your idea, but there is no such thing in the US. “Notarized” simply means the notary public confirmed the ID (drivers license) of the person signing; it does not ascribe verification that the information in the document is true or accurate. WDW CMs are not likely to even look at a doctor’s note for any reason.

I would hope CMs can eyeball height even when the child is sitting if unable to stand. That is what i’ve read from parents. It is not necessary for parents to provide documentation of a child’s height. Maybe those who have direct experience can chime in on this thread.

Enjoy your vacation!

Please tell your husband that the CMs are just doing the job they were trained to do. So many guests try to get kids on rides that they are too short to go on. Those CMs take so much abuse from guests each day, and have to do it with a smile on their faces, for low wages. And there would be no Disney without them. So, yes, it's hard for your family because your child is disabled, but how do the CMs know you are telling the truth? Perhaps bring a tape measure and show the CM how tall your child is that way?

Sorry, but the CMs should know the policy regarding children who cannot stand. And a family should not have to say it more than once.

What exactly is the policy for height measurement if the child cannot be measured though? What would the CM do if he thought the parent was lying? What happens when someone figures out all they have to do is rent a wheelchair for a kid who is too short to ride and tell the kid to pretend not to be able to stand or walk? (not saying anyone here has done this, but I know people who would do stuff like this - and I'm related to one of them, by marriage)

The policy is the caregiver can tell the CM whether or not the kid meets the height requirement. But, every trip there is at least one CM that insists that she get up and be measured (oddly, usually on Soarin', which is 40", but never on any other 40" ride).

I suspect it is an internal operational policy and not published. Maybe for the very reasons you mention.

Enjoy your vacation!

From the above, it sounds like a CM can deny a height given by a parent and ask for a measurement? That's why I suggest bringing a fabric measuring tape. You know that there are parents out there that would lie about a child's height. They won't do the wristbands at Disney because parents would try to switch them, etc. Perhaps they should do measurements at GS for people who cannot stand for the height requirement bars?

You might be on to something with with the measurements at G S idea. At first I thought you might be back to the wristband or card idea, but if they offered the service to everyone and put height on each child’s magic band, that might work. Offer the choice to everyone, get measured the old way at each attraction or get measured once with the results on your MB. That might work. For kids that really can’t get measured reasonably outside a doctor’s office, parents can still give their kids measurement, but once recorded that number is the number.

I am sure that they have to have some kind of policy in place other then to keep telling the child, who can not stand, to stand up. I think that is outrageous behavior. They can call the supervisor and they can handle it appropriately. I think that everyone can tell the difference between a rented wheelchair, and someone's personal wheelchair and a child with CP is pretty obvious.

Lilsia, thank you so much for saying this. I was starting to think this thread was on a train to crazy town.

Some cast member got frustrated at my mom because me and my mom sat down on disability seating in Indiana Jones spectacular show in the studios but when we were in The show with sorcerer Mickey the cast member understood. Stairs are a balance and mobility issue...
