Okay I think the screen has gotten to the point where Disney really needs to put a new one in. The amount of black spots has become somewhat distracting. A few years ago the spots were tolerable, now they're becoming a bit annoying.

Anyone else agree?

YES ! i know it's probably expensive but it's really distracting especially in the beginning

Well, it could sure use a cleaning. The screens as I understand it are older than the attraction - they came out of Horizons, and are Omnimax-spec screens.

They are probably really difficult to clean in general - as in, not going to be done overnight, so they'd have to take the attraction down for refurb to do it.

I agree the screen needs a rehab.

I wonder why disney keeps putting it off. I guess its either financial or the fact they would not want to put into rehab the most popular ride at epcot.

I rode Soarin' for the the first time last week & didn't notice any black spots. Maybe I wasn't being very observant.

People will have a fit when they close that down form maintenance.

Well they can close it down during late Jan or Feb when crowds aren't that severe. Also the refurbs are typically listed well in advance so anyone who thinks that Soarin being down would ruin their trip can avoid booking during the refurb period.

They aren't always listed before the window for people to start booking trips opens. And Soarin' is such a huge people eater closing it for any length of time would likely hurt Epcot quite a bit.

People can change their dates after they've booked a trip up until 45 days before their arrival.

Soarin would hurt Epcot but refurbishments are a part of the business. Can't get around it.

Aren't there more than one Soarin' screens?? Couldn't they just do one at a time :rolleyes1

Not everyone is quite as flexible at changing their plans as you seem to be.

Yes, but that still is 50% of the ride capacity.

Well you said people would have a "fit" over a single ride being refurbed so if it meant that much to them, I assume a lot would alter plans. I would since I'm paying so much money.

Regardless whether someone can or can't change their dates, refurbs still need to be done and Soarin is dire need of one.

AGREED! Rode Soarin' last week and during the very beginning when the screen is very white with clouds, it is incredibly noticeable.

All they have to do is wait for a really slow time (a week) and put a sign out front of the attraction saying that only 50% of the ride is operating this time. They did the same thing when Back to the Future was closing, they closed one dome at a time.

FYI, I did NOT say people would have a fit.

I thought the same thing when I was there a few weeks ago. The black dots are getting very distracting!

I rode it about 2 weeks ago. I commented to those I was with that I thought it was greatly improved from previous visits I have had there. I thought it was much clearer and less aged than in the past.

I agree and I haven't been able to get on it in over a year. We are not morning people ;) and fastpasses are out by the time we arrive!

Soarin' is my favorite ride in all the parks--I can't help thinking it would be worth losing it for a brief spell to ensure that other people get the same quality experience that I did the first time I rode it. That said, the last time I rode it, I felt like I was in elementary school watching a film strip for the first few seconds with all the specks!
