So, I have noticed a trend. it seems like, beginning Saturday, January 23rd that Soarin' reopens for the weekends, (including Friday's on the second week) then closes Monday-Thursday. Let me know if you all see this as well.

I had heard this would be the case from a Soarin' CM.

...and it's going down on the 8th of February. I hope it is open on the 12th

Hmmm... maybe they're testing and fine tuning the movements for the new Soarin Over The World film? And maybe the program for standard Soarin is saved and it's relatively easy to choose one or the other to run, so they're opening the standard version of the popular attraction for the larger weekend crowds to lessen the blow of the DL closures? I wonder if they'll need any guest testers... let me just email and volunteer!

More than likely it'll be cause of testing. Anytime you have people suspended like that they have to test all the what ifs.

Man, that is weird. I suppose if a ride has to be down, that's a pretty good way. That way a family visiting for the week can at least catch it on one day.

Still, frustrating the way this attraction has gone down. For 2-3 months in the spring, then again for a few weeks in the fall, and now again with this weird refurb schedule. It's getting worse than Splash Mt.

That is odd but I think it's great so people can at least get a chance to ride it during their visit. Our last trip was in March of 2014 and I am actually quite surprised this refurb is not done and dusted by now. But I guess all good things take time!

I see that it is not on the refurb list for March 23 but it is for March 22 (TBH, on mobile, I was too lazy to look at other dates before heading here)- is this when SOTW will open? Or will it still be SOC? Anyone have any updates?

I have read that Shanghai had been promised the world premiere of Soarin' over the World, so we won't see it out here until it has debuted there. I have also read that the on again off again schedule of Soarin' right now is so that testing for SOTW can go on during the times when the ride is closed to the public. I'm guessing the wait for the new film in DCA won't be long after Shanghai Disneyland opens.

As far as why Soarin' isn't listed as closed on March 23 I can think of two possibilities. Either the website isn't updated yet, or they plan to hold the ride open a little longer during spring break. That week and the week following will be the peak of spring break crowds since those are the weeks surrounding Easter.

Ah, gotchya. I was hoping the Shanghai piece was just a rumour and California would get it during Spring Break - like you said, during a more crowded time. :)

Well, the Shanghai piece probably is rumor in the sense that there may not be any explicit statement from Disney on who gets it first. I've probably been reading the same articles you have. :-) With the expectation of that park opening so soon, it does seem like stealing their thunder to suddenly premiere the ride elsewhere first though.

As far as I have heard, DCA will be getting a new film, but it will still be Soarin' Over California and will not be over the world, as they want each park to get their own film.
