Soarin questions for someone who is chicken.

The clouds at the beginning are the scariest part because you're moving forward and you have no sense of "scale" when you're up in the air. I usually close my eyes and grip on to the side handles until you get into the actual movie part of the ride.

After that I'm fine and I'm a huge wimp when it comes to heights. :rotfl:

I am afraid of heights, flying tortures me... but I LOVE Soarin'!!!! The first time I rode it, when I felt that sensation of flying, and it made me uneasy, I just looked up and saw the feet above me and my stomach immediately felt better. I've ridden it a few times since the first, and now I can make it all the way through without feeling queasy or scared. Mind over matter, I know easier said than done believe me!! But hopefully you'll have a spectacular experience and want to do it more than once!

I'm going to disagree with most posters. To me, the seatbelt doesn't seem sturdy enough to hold me in. I know it really is, but I would feel much much better if there was a bar in front to hang on to. The times I sucked it up and went on, I spent the time feeling like I was going to fall out.

Having said that, try it at least once. It is only a 5 minute ride, so if you end up not liking it it is over pretty quickly.

Ok....my relief now took an abrupt halt. Lol

Please explain how you felt you were going to fall out? :O

Hi! We'll back at Disney next month. Yay!!!

We want to ride Soarin. And I love simulator rides. Even the Harry Potter's Forbidden Journey over at the dark side.

One thing, I'm afraid of heights. I also have a fear of falling.

I was thinking Soarin was going to be just another simulator ride, until I started reading reviews.

My one big question.....I see the "seatbelt" that "keeps you in the seat". Is there ever any part during the ride, where you can feel yourself slide in your seat? Where you feel like you might slide out during the dips and turns? :O

I realize this is probably a stupid question. My hubby is telling me to suck it up and I'll be fine. I want to hear honest responses first before I tell him, No Way!!!!!

Thank you!!! :)

My 10 year old daughter is really afraid of heights. She didn't want to go on it at all and we had to coax her (and bribe a little bit too!) She not only was totally fine, but said it was her favorite ride in all of WDW.

I hate heights and flying. Last year I decided to put on my "party" pants and try Soarin. No one told me about being on the 3rd line for the lowest height but that's the one I got on. I never felt any seat movement. I'm a very visual person so when the movie was moving down from the sky to see the beach I closed my eyes. No problem! Sometimes I would peek and everything turned out fine! Btw, I was 58 years old and that was my 1st ever big girl ride/experience. It was fun and interesting. Oh, I have an inner ear imbalance and wasn't bothered by it a bit! Best Wishes! Remember to put on your "Party pants" and enjoy!

Thank you!!! I'm going to try back row first. And use that middle strap. As long as I don't feel myself shifting or sliding, I think I'll be ok.

:)

I have never noticed any shifting or sliding in the seats. To me it just feels like the seats lift up, and then the rest of the movement is all screen/simulator illusion. I think you will be fine. I think the PP's issue is probably with the fact that the seat belt is basically just a cloth strap as opposed to a metal bar. There really isn't much movement of the ride seats themselves to be felt. The one thing I would recommend is not to sit in the end seat. This is not because of the movement, but just because of your fear of heights, and the ability to look over the side from the end seat. If you get positioned at the end, then just switch places with your DH and let him take the end seat. You will feel more secure sitting between people and not tempted to look over the edge to see how high up you are.

I think it is all in my head. To me, that seatbelt just doesn't feel secure enough. I mean, I know it is, but I would be much happier with some sort of bar instead. It is just being high up, and having nothing secure in front of you seems not right to me.

But like I said, it is over very quickly if you find you are not enjoying it.

Dh is petrified of heights. He can't even do a ladder more than 2 or 3 rungs up. He has now tried Soarin a few times and he's enjoyed it , and this is from a guy who has trouble with Peter Pan's Flight ;).

My experience was exactly the opposite. If anything, I felt like the seat belt was almost too tight. I'm a little afraid of heights but never once felt like I was going to slip out of the belt. I loved the ride.

Yes, there was more than once that I felt the seat tilt forward. Each time I panicked. And each time, my husband would tell me to close my eyes.

I think part of the problem is the lack of a bar or real restraint. The other problems is that although you aren't really that high, you feel like you are way up in the sky.

For me at least, it was not a fun ride, at all.

I felt the same way. It really needs a bar or a sturdy seat belt. Or maybe I just need to stop trying to ride it.

I am a bit scared of heights but Soarin' is actually one of my favorite rides. I do hold on tightly to the side bars during the ride, but I never feel like I shift in my seat. And I never even thought to put the kids safety strap on - maybe I will try that next time.

Sometimes I have to close my eyes during the ride, especially during one part when you soar quickly over the top of a mountain. But the plus side is that when you close your eyes, there is barely any movement at all.

Just lean back and hold the side grips and you will be fine!

I wish there was a lap belt or shoulder harness also. But....I'll try it once. I'll try for the back row, and I'll not sit on an end seat. My hubby is also prepared to sit next to me and on to me for dear life.....lol!!!! At least as much as he can.

Thanks everyone. :)

There is a lap belt. And you can add the t-strap by feeding the lap belt through it.

SCROLL down and you can see the lap belts and the T strap leaning forward. http://www.theinfomouse.com/2011/06/20/pooh-sized-at-walt-disney-world/

Thanks everybody!!! I text my hubby and told him I'd try it. :)

yay

You will have fun. They darken the room and then raise the seats up before turning the screen on, so you will not notice that you are above ground too much unless you specifically look down.

As for moving, not even my 4 year old twins move in their seats.

It's a very smooth ride and you will feel very secure.

Have fun! :goodvibes

I too have a fear of heights but Soarin' was amazing and I would ride it again in a heartbeat. It gives the effect of gently swaying from side to side and my husband said it was similar to what he sees when he goes up in a hot air balloon which I would never do. Enjoy it!

I do think it is worth a try. Lowest row and if you have decent night vision it might help to occasionally look down to remind yourself how low you are. I used to love that ride and I am glad to have ridden it but I am terrified the whole time that I will pass out and fall forward out of that belt. I reaaally want a shoulder restraint on that ride! Just be prepared to deal with it if you get the same sensation.

I was scared of this one. I used the middle strap. I hate flying, hate heights and hate simulator rides. But my 4 yo wanted to go. So I went on with her. I loved it and so did she. I didn't feel like I was going to fall, never slid a bit. I mostly felt like I was watching an iMax movie from a chair. (Had to look straight ahead for the motion sickness, otherwise all was good)
