Soarin or TT for nervous 6 year old?

Like all the other posters said - Soarin' - and ask to sit in a low (off the ground) row. Most people ask for the high rows, so I'm sure they will be happy to accomodate you.

I have a SUPER nervous 7 year old. Refuses to ride anything that event remotely goes fast (TTA was good, but she hated the dark part). She will now do Test Track, and likes it, but makes me bring her soundproof headphones for parts of it. On the other hand, she has loved Soarin' since the beginning.

It is very calm, very pretty music, very relaxing - nothing jarring or "scary" - I think it is one of the nicest rides in the parks.

I agree with Soarin' whether it's Tower of Terror or Test Track. I love Test Track though that the end does have me gripping a bit. I just rode Tower of Terror for the first time last trip and not sure I will ride again...eek!

I don't know about requesting rows. I do prefer the top row so that I'm not looking at dangling feet and sometimes will ask and wait a load if need be.

However, if it this is due to a child and not a nervous adult, I'm not sure a young child would note the difference in height between the rows?

It is a few minutes (6?)-dark as you rise and so sense-immersed that my first ride I'm not sure I even looked down. Of course you know your own child best.

I believe OP is talking about Test Track (TT) and not Tower of Terror (ToT).

Definitely Test Track. If she's nervous then getting on Soarin' will be intimidating walking into a dark room and then being lifted in the air. That's a bad place for a kid to freak out. At least on Test Track they are in a ride vehicle and they may seem more comfortable in a car sitting in the middle of two adults.

Thank you for all the great feedback! Sorry I have been MIA but I have worked an odd schedule for the past couple of days and just checking the replies. Yes TT=Test Track. I figure given the current Epcot tiers I would schedule one or the other. Good idea watching some youtube videos. Last trip she was tall enough for lots of rides but we didn't push her at all. This trip I figure I might as well schedule some FP+ options but see how it goes and reschedule as necessary. As I get older I am definitely not as into thrill rides so would be perfectly happy to ride Spaceship Earth and the Figment ride all day!

My DD at 3.5 loved Soaring but did not care for RSR at DCA, which IMO is the same ride mechanics as TT. For her Soaring was kind of like a big swing. What she didn't like about RSR was the speed, the darkness, it was jerky and she really wasn't tall enough to see out of the car when seated between Mom and Dad (she was 42 inches at the time). We are headed to the World in 58 days ( not excited or anything) and will be 5 and is now over 45 inches. She is willing to try TT, but looks forward to Soaring. She is also willing to try Goofys Barnstormer this time, and if that goes well we are hoping for a trip on SDMT as it opens a few days before we arrive!

Most definitely Soarin. Last time when we went my DD was 5. I knew she could handle the drops at ToT, but the line and movie at the start would be way too scary.

Please if your daughter doesn't want to ride don't force her. Since your asking I'm sure you wouldn't do that but I was really upset last month when we rode Soarin with a little boy who did not want to be there. The cast members were checking the seat belts and this poor little boy was crying and very upset sitting with his mother and I assume father and older sister. He was begging the cast member not to leave him alone with his mother( and had a death grip on the cast members hand). When the cast member went to check the next row the poor child's mother clamped her hand over his mouth and was obviously yelling into his ear to be quite. I was happy to see the cast member come back and check on the child and he was nearly hysterical. After a few minute wait and arguing with the mother they finally got off the ride and waited outside while the father and daughter rode. After the ride was over and we were walking out the hallway we went by the two of them and the poor child was shaking and mom looked furious. I know we only saw a small part of it but that scene bothered me all day. Disney is supposed to bring happiness not terror.

Was really happy how calmly the cast member handled it all.

happy you shared this -- it's great when you see CMs do things like this. But wow, I would have wanted to yell at that mother. that must have been hard for everyone.

Soaring. Make sure not to get the top row. I would ask for bottom row for a nervous person.

Soarin'! My youngest was 4 1/2 on our last trip and has always been a cautious kid. She loved Soarin' and wanted to ride it over and over. TT wasn't open on our last trip but I wouldn't have even attempted to take her on it. My hubby thought it would be a fine idea to get her on splash mountain and the poor baby was petrified.

I have this same concern for our 5 yo son. We're going to attempt Soarin' and based on that, make the decision for Test Track. I am concerned with the "heat up the car" part more than the speed, actually. I'm worried he will freak that we're going to burn up.

When my now 11 yo was here when HE was 5, it took him 3 approaches to ride the Barnstormer in MK. He was so proud he "conquered" it. We did not even THINK of taking him on anything besides the very tame from then on.

Our FP+ window opens soon so starting to plan our days. Which would you choose for a just turned nervous nelly 6 yr old... Soarin or TT. For some perspective on our last trip our DD was 4.5 and considered the TTA a "roller coaster"!

My daughter was 5 last year and rode SM and was scared of it rode BTMRR and loved it. Was tenative on TT but couldn't wait to get back on it and didn't like the height of soarin so it really all depends.

That sounds like a reason to choose Soarin'. The OP says that her child is a nervous nelly and thinks of TTA as a roller coaster. She doesn't really sound like she's ready for a fast ride like Test Track.

As a ride chicken myself with a deathly fear of heights even at my 30's I would favor Soarin over TT. Soarin does make me nervous at some points since it simulates heights, but I can handle it. To me TT, the end is super fast and it makes me fearful, I can tolerate it but it took me two trips to be able to ride it, I would say Soarin.

I have twin boys who were 6 last trip. They are NOT the adventuresome type. They LOVED Soarin!!!!! Definitely one of their favorite rides. I think they rode it 4 times. Test Track.... They enjoyed overall, and did choose to ride a second time with me on the baby swap pass, but there were a few moments of, "maybe I want to stay with daddy and sister....."

ETA- I do have to add, that spaceship earth was also a huge hit. It may seem dated and boring to a lot of us, but they thought it was great!

You go faster on the interstate..... I would think Soarin in worse because your dangling high up in the air. TT feels more like a gokart

Both have their pros and cons.

Soarin is a smooth ride though not the best for anyone who doesn't like heights Being in the third row, and closer to the ground may help, but the simulator does make it seem like you are higher.

Test Track is a much faster ride but there are no heights involved. The part that I would think would scare a child more is the sudden stop section. The outside part isn't that bad if you've even driven down the highway with the windows open (I believe the car goes to 60 or 70 mph rough highway speed).

So it just depends on if your child doesn't like heights or sudden motion more which would be the better first ride.

Nervous six year old maybe avoid ToT. I was on it with little ones yesterday and they did great but I don't know how nervous they were before they got on

My 6 year old who is pretty nervous did both, and didn't complain about either. I skipped Soarin, was with her when she road tt and she had a great time with it. To compare, she hated space mountain so much she was crying when she got off. I am not a big ride gal, I was more nervous on Barnstormer than TT.
