Our FP+ window opens soon so starting to plan our days. Which would you choose for a just turned nervous nelly 6 yr old... Soarin or TT. For some perspective on our last trip our DD was 4.5 and considered the TTA a "roller coaster"!

Can you show your DD youtube videos and let her decide? Just my opinion of course, but I think Soarin' is less scary than TT. It's not fast and since it's dark you really don't know how high up you are.

Oh, most definitely Soarin. And I'm an adult and have never ridden Tower of Terror. I just know that I'd be scared out of my wits at the first drop.
Soarin' is slow, easy, slow motion, no drops, mostly visual effects and lots of things to look at.
I have a problem with heights when I'm in an open area -- like along a steep drop-off even standing on solid ground. My stomach drops at some things I see in movies and on the internet. Seriously. I wanted to ride Soarin' so badly but I was nervous the first time.
Loved it. Absolutely loved it. And after all the years I've gone to Disney parks, it's one of my favorites. We see lots of little kids just tall enough to be allowed to ride and they love it!!
Have fun.
:)

I would definitely choose Soarin. Like all other simulator rides she can just close her eyes if she doesn't want to watch.

If she's nervous, being strapped into a car that's almost getting in crashes and going sideways around the track would IMO just not work for her.

Am I wrong to assume that OP is referencing Test Track and not Tower of Terror? :confused3

If Test Track, I don't think either that nor Soarin' are particularly scary.

I think TT is meant to be Test Track. ???
Still Soarin' over TT. Test track is fast at the end.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

Soaring for sure. There are parts that might make her or him a bit nervous but then when you start smelling the smells that go with the picture it's actually very calming. It's funny how scents can do this. He or she will be too amused that are smells vs the motions of the ride. My favorite scents are the Pine Trees and Orange Grove!!!

Soarin definitely because you actually no move you the scariest part is where you just go up to the screen at the beginning of the ride and it only takes a second. and when you goe back down what also only takes a second also. test track you have bank turns and reach speeds at 65 mph the fastest speed at Disney world. So Take her on Soarin.

I also have a very ride timid child and she LOVES Soarin. She took one look at the end of Test Track (what you could see from the outside) and refused to go on.

Yes, but we're talking about a child who considers TTA a roller coaster. ;) If that's her idea of fast, I think Test Track might freak her out.

Maybe. I would just pose it as a car ride, which she surely must do on a daily basis.

The TTA has that completely dark part when it goes inside space mountain. I remember that freaking me out as a child and I loved roller coasters, but also my youngest DD was scared on that part and she loves ToT. :rotfl2:

I would try Soarin'. I, too, have a nervous nelly 6-year old and he will ride Soarin'. He tried TT once about a year and a half ago and never wanted to ride it again. He finally asked to ride it again on our trip last week after 2 days of hemming and hawing and ended up loving it, but I would not recommend it as a first ride for a nervous nelly. We really had to work up to that one and he has yet to ride EE, ToT, RnRRC, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, etc. I vote for Soarin'

Oops. My bad. Automatically thought of Tower when I saw the TT. I'd still choose Soarin'. That part with the truck still startles me. :-)

Please if your daughter doesn't want to ride don't force her. Since your asking I'm sure you wouldn't do that but I was really upset last month when we rode Soarin with a little boy who did not want to be there. The cast members were checking the seat belts and this poor little boy was crying and very upset sitting with his mother and I assume father and older sister. He was begging the cast member not to leave him alone with his mother( and had a death grip on the cast members hand). When the cast member went to check the next row the poor child's mother clamped her hand over his mouth and was obviously yelling into his ear to be quite. I was happy to see the cast member come back and check on the child and he was nearly hysterical. After a few minute wait and arguing with the mother they finally got off the ride and waited outside while the father and daughter rode. After the ride was over and we were walking out the hallway we went by the two of them and the poor child was shaking and mom looked furious. I know we only saw a small part of it but that scene bothered me all day. Disney is supposed to bring happiness not terror.

Was really happy how calmly the cast member handled it all.

It would depend on the child, but it sounds like for the OP that Soarin' is the better choice.

Some children are more bothered by the heights of Soarin' and some are more bothered by the speed of TT. I can tell you that my 4 & 6 year olds love Test Track and are indifferent towards Soarin', but they are into roller coasters (both love BTM as well).

I would agree with Disneytam, you have to let the child decide if they are ready for either ride.

I would do Soarin' over Test Track for a timid child. I saw a CM explain to a small child who was a bit nervous on Soarin' and she described it like swinging. That child loved it. My DS (who is close in age to OP's child) isn't a big fan of Test Track. I think he likes designing the car but the actually ride, he could leave it. I am not sure if it is because he can't see much of what is going on and majority of the ride is in the dark.

Soaring. Make sure not to get the top row. I would ask for bottom row for a nervous person.

Of course, every child/family is different but since you asked...:goodvibes
My DS was almost 6 last summer and is very timid with rides. He rode Soarin 3 times in a row with no problem. He was afraid of TT and I definitely didn't push him but he is "thinking" about trying it this summer!
