"H O L L Y W O O D" sign!

Dont get me wrong I loved Soarin, went on it 3 x last week. However, am I the only one who thinks its weird that the attraction that boasts all the Califorinia icons is missing the most famous one?

I thought this was weird. If on Family Feud they asked "what is the most famous California icon?" I am sure the Hollywood sign would be the #1 answer!
Yet it isn't a part of Soarin.
It's as if they did a New York version of Soarin and left out the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Bldg.

:confused3

...if there may have been rights/privacy issues involved, since to fly up and over that sign might entail flying over some private homes.

Also: Disney is missing something else on this attraction -- A SHOP!!! They don't have ANY Soarin' merchandise!! For shame!! :sad2:

I think its weird to have a california theme in the first place. It made sense when we rode it in DL. They could have done the east coast or Soarin over the US.

We love Soarin too.

But now that you mention it...it does seem strange! :confused3

The California movie is there for the celebration. I'm given to understand after it is over, it will be replaced with a movie with scenes from around the world in keeping with the Epcot theme.

I was really disapointed with Soarin, lucky I didnt have to queue as long as other people though

:o
I didn't know that. Now it makes more sense. I hope it's replaced by the time we return next year.

I loved Soarin' in California but I too thought it was a bit strange to do it in Florida... as for the missing HOLLYWOOD sign, I dunno, I thought they did flash by it really quickly but I only rode it one time and wasn't really watching for it. There would be no reason I can think of to exclude it, people fly over it all the time (although not hang glide over it).

Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, California and end in WDW during Wishes.

Maybe they didnt do the Hollywood sign because it is not very pretty up close. Unless they've restored it, it was grafittied.

I dunno....I grew up in Cali and I have to say, the Golden Gate Bridge is a far more well known icon in this state. And I have to agree with another poster....the sign sits behind many VERY expensive homes that they would have to fly over. I know if I had paid a ton of money for "privacy", I would be ticked to know that my backyard would be seen by millions of people at a Disneyland/WDW attraction...LOL!!!

My Nephew said the same thing! He is actually disapointed when he gets off a ride, and there is no gift shop!

I grew up in California too. I agree 100%. Also El Capitan and Yosemite Fallls are far more representative as well as the Golden Gate Bridge.

They probably had to cut it because they noticed some couple skinny dipping in their pool on the film.

Not only that, but they didn't take a picture of my family on the ride? What's up with that? :rotfl:

Does anyone remember if the HOLLYWOOD sign is in the soarin in California? I thought it was when we rode it last Oct. Maybe I had too much dramamine that day. :confused3

I doubt it has to do with flyover rights. Any helicopter can fly and videotape the Hollywood sign. They do for movies all the time. Nobody can tell a plane or helicopter they can't fly over their house. Air space isn't private, although it can be restricted by the government.

The fact that Disneyland is decorated for Christmas bugs me. Especially when you are on the ride in April. It just seems wrong to me some how. You would have thought that they would have waited for the Christmas trees were down before filming the segment.

The only negative thing I have to say about this ride, is that it doesn't have a shop. Other than that I love it, love it, love it! The reason you are soarin over California is to Celebrate Disneyland's Fiftieth anniversary. WDW added shows and attractions from all over for the celebration, to celebrate the anniversary of the first park.

You're right! It is one of the FEW rides that it isn't taken!
