Hello everyone. My SIL is a larger person and I was wondering if she would have trouble going on Soarin'. Also, she apparently has vertigo but doesn't know what triggers it. She doesn't know if it's heights, spinning, drops, or what.

Does anyone have any advice to offer or should she be okay on Soarin'?

There will be zero problems riding due to body size

As to vertigo, only she will know if she decides to ride.

Most guests don't have a problem with Soarin'.

I have a mild sensitivity to heights, and Soarin' doesn't trigger it. It's hard to know how it will affect an individual until you get on it.

It's also hard to know how comfortable the seats will be for individuals' sizes, but here's a link to a GIS that shows people in the seats, to give you an idea.

Ask to sit in the bottom row. Close eyes if you start to get freaked out because your brain thinks you're actually up in the sky. Look to the right and left, to remind yourself where you are and that you're just watching a movie.

I have vertigo from an inner ear condition, and it's only triggered if my head is jerked or suddenly whipped. No issues on Soarin, although everyone's triggers are different.

Tip from a Pooh sized person here, before I sit down I grab the seat belt and wrap it around my legs, look back at the latching mechanism, place buckle in the opening then sit down. Sometimes it's difficult for us Pooh sized people to find the belt and then get it latched (because you can't see it).

Thanks for all the tips.

I have been on Soarin' before but it was about 2 1/2 years ago and I wasn't thinking about how easy a larger person could fit in the seats at all.

I have positional vertigo and am very prone to motion sickness, and I am mostly OK on Soarin'. The large screen and motion sometimes start to trigger the vertigo, but if I just close my eyes, I am OK. Except for when your seats are moving up and then coming back to earth, the ride really doesn't move much at all.

I'm a plus size person and didn't have any difficulty fitting in to the seat. There are handle bars on each side of your legs, and i carry most of my weight at my thighs and had no problem.

The scariest part was the "lift off" and "landing". It was fast and sudden especially since i was in the first row. But once the actual film starts it's like being on a very gentle swing. The seat doesn't really move much, it's the air you feel combined with the film that makes it feel like you're soaring. Holding onto the handle bars next to me helped. I have mild motion sickness and really enjoyed the ride.

That's what I figured, I just wanted to double check. I did tell her the ride didn't move that much. You basically are just lifted into the air and watch a movie then are put back down and that I would think she started to feel dizzy she could close her eyes and it should resolve itself. She said she thought she would be okay with this ride.

Without more info, I don't know that I would say this definitively. Someone who is extremely overweight may feel uncomfortable on this ride. However, if the person is able to walk around the park without assistance, chances are they are not in the category that would have a problem on it.

Yup.
