soap weekend

Hello everyone I am new to the dis boards and a 1st time poster. We are going on the land/sea vcation with DH, me. DD15, DS11, DD1 from Nov 10-18 which fell on soap opra weekend, and am booked on the pin cruising sailing on the 14th(Im very excited). I know the parks/ship will be extra crowed but I dont want to have masses of people around since I we only vacation once every two years. Has anyone done soap weekend/pin cruise??

First and foremost...welcome to the cruise board!!! Ask away with any questions and I am sure you get great answers!!!

Now to your first questions...

Never did soap weekend at WDW but heard it does get crowded. As far as the ship...you will never experience crowds like at WDW. I have sailed several times onboard DCL on sold out cruises and could not really tell the difference from the cruises that were not sold out.

On DCL there is a cutoff...there can only be so many passengers and the ship's layout makes it feel less crowded.

The only time you will really see lines on DCL is for character autographs and cruise photos.

Another line that I see and never understand is on the first night or two there always seems to be a line to get into the dining rooms....you have an assigned seat so there is really no reason to stand in the line (unless people are really hungry!!!). We usually have a drink in the Promenade lounge and once the line is gone walk into the dining rooms.

Soap opra weekend is when soap stars go to WDW and you can get their autograph and pictures. I have never been before but read that this year it is at MGM on Nov 13-14.

I was told that on Super Soap Weekend MGM is really the only park affected.

Are you serious? So, do the "soap opera" actors get in for free? Never heard of this before. Mind you - I wouldnt have a clue what a USA soap opera actor looked like, so they wouldnt get much interest out of me!Now...............if Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt were there.................. fainting Nat

We might be fighting in line over Tom Cruise. You can have Brad Pitt.

Seriously though, Soap Opera weekend has been going on for a long time. Unless you are a Soap fan you probably wouldn't know anything about it. I remember it from when I used to watch Soaps. I gave that up after Marla was possessed on Days of Our Lives. That was too much for me.

Think I shall have to give "soap opera weekend" a miss. Thanks for the info. Glad we dont have anything similar here - as far as I know! Caught an episode of "Days of our Lives" last trip to Florida: the scenery moved more than the actors...........pretty much the same as over here! Now........... maybe we could persuade Disney to have "hunky movie actor weekend"...........I would be booking flight now! Pssst.........goin2disneyagain......... trade you Tom for Brad!Nat

Acutally it is only ABC Soaps (General Hospital, One Life to Live, and All My Children). Being as Disney owns ABC.


BTW, There are some pretty hunky guys on General Hospital.
