I found out today my dad got laid off.
He was high up in Merrill Lynch, and they were doing major cut-backs because of the recession. Since my dad's salary was pretty high, him and a lot of people on his level got laid off, since it would be getting the most money back.

Honestly, when my mom told me, I was just relieved that someone I know didn't die, because that's what her face looked like.

I mean, it's going to be tough, because we're used to a certain lifestyle. Plus my brother's going to college next year, and I dunno how that's gonna work out financially.
But, surprisingly, I'm not that upset.
I'm a little bit scared, but not as much as I thought I would be in a situation like this. I just have complete faith that everything's going to be alright.
I mean, my family's overcome obstacles in the past, and I know that we can overcome this.
As corny as it sounds, but I think that living through this is really going to teach me some things and help me become a better person.

My dad's looking for a new job, and my mom might have to get a job now, too, but that's not the point of this thread.

This just all got me thinking about obstacles in general.
What kind of obstacles have you had to overcome?
Do you think you've grown from them?

I'm sorry to hear about your dad's job, sweetie.

I've had obstacles in my life, I'm sure everyone has. I just tried to look at the light at the end of the tunnel. And once I was through it, I felt pretty proud that I had gotten through it.

Every obstacle has an ending. You just have to remember that.

ma few yrs a go my mum got laid off, i was younger so i didny really understand wat was happening but all i know is that that next bday was a whle lot diff. so ya. . . Although it was a blessing cuz my mum spends more time with us now and i realized that i neva wuld have met my bff if it werent for that. . .

I'm really sorry to hear that :[

I've had to worry about that, the company he works for is always on his back and they're starting to target older people who have been in the company a long time. He's not that old, turning 49. The company just wants to hire younger people who will take less pay, and I don't think that's right. He still has his job, but I worry about him because he gets so stressed out because they're putting extra pressure on him and I'm just worried he'll come home one day without a job.

I hope your dad finds a new job soon and everything works out okay.
