Ok, who watched it?!?!? What did everyone think?

I did.....I had seen the ads for it, but forgot about it. When I got home from work last night...I flicked the remote a few times and it was on. Enjoyed it, will be interesting to see just who makes it to Hollywood and who else goes home!

I TIVO'ed it, and started watching it, but didn't finish. I actually was a little bored by it. Maybe it will get better.

I watched it and while it was enjoyable, it wasn't what I expected. I was expecting to see more dance routine style dancing, more choreography involved instead of all that hip hoppy breakdance stuff. My first thought was 2 of the dancers from my DD's ex studio would have blown those dancers off the stage.

I watched it. There were too many good dancers and not enough funny/bad auditions for my tastes. Also, I was bummed that the judge was so critical of the Juliard (sp?) ballet-dancer guy. Granted, I could have done w/o the rhythmic gynmastics thing that he did, but otherwise I thought that he was a beautiful dancer. He deserved a shot to go to Hollywood IMHO.

Also, what was up with all the "breakdancers"? I felt like I was back in 1985 or something

I looked at the SYTYCD message boards and there are people who are outraged at Nigel's comments to the ballet dancer who wasn't masculine enough. The people are saying the show is homophobic because of that and should be banned from the air. I didn't get that vibe at ALL! What did everyone else think?

Well, we thought it was craptacular. Gave up on it and changed the channel. It was very boring and frankly I don't think the rest of the season will ever pick up steam.

I watched it - thought it was just o.k. I hope that the next show is better. I didn't see the ballet guy's first routine - but I didn't think he was that bad with a partner. It's got to be hard to eliminate dancer's when there are so many at the audition.

by 9:00pm I had enough. I agree with the earlier post that there needed to be more funny dancers. The good dancers get their airtime after the first couple auditions anyways. I dont think I will watch it any more.

I didn't think he danced masculine either and I didn't think Nigel's comments were homophobic at all. He wasn't what they were looking for and I think he underlined that by his attitude when they delivered the bad news to him. Also, I thought his outfit was bordering on obscene. I could see his heartbeat in those shorts.

Obviously since part of the show is dancing as a couple, Nigel wanted Masculine and Feminine dancers. That ballet dancer guy did not dance masculine at all, not that there is anything wrong with that, just not what he was looking for. Nigel kept on saying that they were CASTING FOR A SHOW, so not all the great dancers were going to get through. I thought the guy was a beautiful dancer. He will have a great career I bet on Broadway, but this was not the show for him.

I actually like the breakdancing stuff. I think it's pretty amazing what they can do.

And that 29-year old lady is VERY ANNOYING. I had hoped he wouldn't put her through to Hollywood.

Caught the first half. I'm sure we'll keep watching since DD loves dance. I had to agree on the ballet guy. I'm sorry, guys just don't look right doing the ribbon stuff, and his outfit--ugh! Try explaining THAT to your kids (who noticed, belive me!). That said, he has a fabulous future in ballet. I didn't think it was homophobic--they were looking for a masculine dancer, there are gay guys who look very macho, the ballet guy just wasn't one of them.

Overall, though, you could tell who they would pick. Most of the people seem to have little to no dance training (formal, I mean), and the biggest issue seems to be the cross-training. That surprises me, only because I figured most people who like dance would have several styles in their repertoire. And I found the break dancing just amazing. JMHO

Oh yeah I was at that, too! I turned to DH and said, "did I hear, just what I thought I heard?" I was seriously cracking up.

I was just going to post that!!! That was the best thing ever! Because right before she said that I kept asking, is that her dad her her boyfriend? Ryan Seacrest might want to give the new host a few pointers.

Maybe there WEREN'T too many "bad" dancers who auditioned yet. The allure of AI is immediate star status with a recording contract. The allure of SYTYCD is a an opportunity to live in NYC with some money and try to make it work for yourself. It seems like it would be attracting less "bad" dancers because of the lack of instant stardom. In the dance community you have more opportunities to audition for the "big wigs" who can make you a star and more chances for you to fail. With AI it's some people's only chance to get in front of a record company.

Besides, more people KNOW when they can't dance. Singing... welll...

I watched it too last night and liked it. My older kids watched it too and enjoyed and was amazed with the break dancing.

I always love hip hop dancing.

I'll be watching it again, I'm sure.

When I first saw the previews, I thought they'd be trying to compare breakdancers with ballerinas and the "less talented" dancers would win because mainstream America has no idea what moves require what kind of talent/training.

The belly dancing woman left in tears claiming that they're only going to be left with a bunch of rich white people who've taken lots of dance classes. While that may be partially true, it also shows a lack of knowledge about any other form of dance. (see next paragraph)

I was happy to see the content of the choreography - a salsa and a partner combo with opportunities to play up your strengths. Many ballerinas can't shake their hips the way latin dance requires - they're trained to make long, elegant lines. Some of those who made it through don't have the technical training, but they do have the drive and a stage presence.

I also hope the 29 year old goes down - annoying and just looking for fame that one.

The breakdancer who made it through - and I didn't notice any others - was the only one who worked with the music rather than turning it on and doing some moves. And then we find out he has a modern/jazz background. That's, in my opinion, is a good message for young men. Here is a macho "tough" guy who can do what he does because he has a classical training.

I wish the judges would have phrased their comments to the Julliard guy differently. It came across as about sexuality and masculinity when it SHOULD, IMHO, have come across as you're just not right for the show. Granted, that was also said, but it should have stayed there. I did laugh when the kid challenged the judge about masculinity in dance. Many male ballet dancers are about that "masculine" (in quotes because gender roles are dependant upon culture).
