So will you return with your dog to a Disney resort?

So, for those who have been onsite with your dog did you like it well enough to do it again?

I know now that Disney can go in your resort room any time they want to. My dog would not be to happy with a stranger in the room. Of course, my dog would be kenneled but she would be upset with a stranger coming in. Has this bothered your dog?

Resort staff will not enter a room while a dog is present. That’s why they issue you a hang tag for the door when you check in with a dog.

I hope all dogs are behaved and do not chew up pillows or other items when they are bored.
Maybe wee-wee pads may help dog owners at WDW resorts.

So people that bring pets don't have to deal with the daily room checks? Interesting.

Yes but they schedule them instead. So it’s not a surprise check, but they do check. Which makes very little sense to me, I guess it’s to say they did do checks if something did actually happen, we experienced this in June at the cabins. They’d call and we would say sure we will be here at so and so time. The dog was never in the cabin alone and we never did hang the sign, I think they did it,as courtesy and safety precaution. I know they will not enter at any time when a dog is present, but do people actually go to Disney with pets and leave them in the room in attended all day?

This is the question I have been asking when this issue is brought up on the boards. No one has given feedback on how the check is done with a pet in the room. I know what Disney says is their procedure on this issue but want to hear the real experience with it. For me my disagreement with the security checks is more that I don't want Disney to do the check while someone is sleeping or I don't want them to check room while away (theft protection). If I could schedule the check I'd feel better about it but doesn't having to schedule a security check defeat the purpose of having them? I really don't think the checks do much for security anyway.

I think it’s more security theater, I don’t know if they also checked when we were away from the room, we travel with service pup, he comes with us in to the park and everywhere else, except rides that he isn’t allowed on. I’d love to know the real reason behind the checks, I don’t think anyone would really admit to the truth. As far as theft goes lock your valuables in the safe, because even if there weren’t security checks you never know who has a key to your room. They will knock before trying to go into the room and they knock loud. I’m at the point where staying off property is looking like a better decision. If I didn’t have to bring a dog I wouldn’t, I also wouldn’t bring one just to get out of the checks I’d change hotels first. I don’t think people realize the stress it puts on a dog/cat/any animal when they get moved from their natural environment to a new one. I also don’t think it’s fair for a person to leave a animal in room alone for hours on end and not expect bad things to happen, even a kenneled animal can do major damage to themselves or to a room.

Room checks are not just 'theatre'. If you room is filled with materials that don't belong at a resort (use your imagination what that might be), then even if the check is scheduled, you couldn't hide all of those items and they would still be visible. I don't see it as any different then having the maid clean the room while you are gone. Typically, at most hotels they do that while the room is empty.

Threads above bringing your dog typically don't go well here.

I was in law enforcement for a long time,Sorry when you are making a appointment for a security check it’s theater. I do agree about it being like the maid cleaning your room, that’s probably more effective. But a person walking from the front of your room to the back then leaving will probably catch a inept person not a true criminal. What they are attempting to do is provide a false sense of security, as long as vehicles are allowed on property there can never be true checks due to being able to have access to storage in your vehicle. Hence the parking fee to dissuade people from bring a vehicle, and also a new revenue stream that requires no investment.
Most hotels don’t have a wellness/security check, they don’t have the staff to do it. They also can’t afford the p.r. hit that would come to any hotel other than a Disney one.
As far as threads about bringing dogs not going well, everyone here seems to be playing nice.

I've wondered about cars. It seems easy to just keep anything bulky in your car.

That’s the weak area, why would anyone be dumb enough to bring contraband into a room when they can store it in a vehicle, a person that flies has the added checks of TSA and usually comes to Disney with magical express. The person that has a vehicle has none of the additional security checks and has access to storage that can’t be searched without probable cause. A check for all entering vehicles would probably be more effective. Also X-ray of all incoming packages would also help.

Good ideas. Thanks for posting. The “check in” at the guard’s gate is less than robust. At the BW on the evening of 10.13.18, hundreds of Uber’s came through that gate and picked up guests at the portico. I wondered about security.

Folks, the OP had a question about bringing a dog to the resort. It’s not the place to rehash old arguments about room checks. Since the OP has gotten their answer, this thread is closed.
