we take our generally well-behaved DS5 and DD7 to CA Grill? My DH really wants to eat there, but I am worried it is not an atmosphere for kids. I see that it has a children's menu, and it seems like people take their older children there, so I guess I am asking is it normal to see grade-school aged children there? I plan to make an earlier reservation so they won't be tired, but if people are going to be whispering and staring, I will not enjoy the meal. Any comments? Thanks!

I would say not at all.
It is a more upscale restaurant, but I've been three times and there were kids there each time.
Of course, the later at night, the fewer children.

I don't think you'll get any funny looks unless your kids act up...and it sounds as if they'd be well-haved. I have to admit that I was none too happy about the little one that SCREAMED throughout our entire late night meal here in July. Also, I doubt that my little ones would actually enjoy the experience or the long waits. (We had an 8:20 ADR, were seated about an hour later, and did not get our appetizer until after the fireworks had started.)

I toook my well-behaved grandsons age 5/7 and I had no problems. I think behavior is the key. well-behaved =no problem, not well behaved =you will get looks and irrated glares.

We always go to CG and we've never glared at families with children. It's WDW for goodness sake. This childless couple understands that much. I say go and have a great time. The Chef there is really nice, I read he used his own kids as testers for the childrens menu there. Have fun.

Typical Disney/family eatery, albeit more expensive. We always see lot's of kids there.

There were lots of kids there when we dined...some were well behaved, some were not Go and have a great time! :)

Its won't be a problem at all for reasonably well-behaved kids of that age, and yes it is normal to see plenty of children this age at CG. Have fun!

California Grill is very kid-friendly. It combines an upscale decor and cuisine with a kid-friendly atmosphere like no place else I've ever seen. Take the kids and have a blast... just don't count on whispering any sweet nothings to your spouse... CG is LOUD. :-)

I'm glad to have seen this thread. We are planning to take our 4 year old DGD with us, and she is well behaved (most of the time), and often accompanies her parents to nice restaurants. We would have to skip this restaurant if it was not kid friendly.

With few exceptions, like V&A, I don't think children should be excluded from any restaurant at WDW. The problem sometimes is that parents don't factor in the fact that they are children who get bored and tire easily, but they go ahead and make dinner reservations for 8 or 9, and then what can you expect from the little guys. Go and enjoy yourselves - well-behaved children are a pleasure to see anywhere. And I don't even have kids!!

We took our two children last year (ages 3 and 1 at the time) and we didn't get any glares. Both of them were well behaved. We also made a very early PS/reservation.

I am taking my niece and nephew (ages 4 and 6) to CG in December. Every time I have eaten there I have seen kids. It is not a problem. If they start screaming bloody murder it would be nice to take them for a walk or something (there is an outdoor observation deck you can go on), but the restaurant is very loud anyway, so normal kid behavior should not bother anyone.

I will say that I have made an early adr for the meal, and I am not going to try and get them to hang around the table after we are done eating to wait for wishes.

Don't worry about it. Your children sound old enough. Bring some crayons and paper like i did and enjoy!

I agree with all of the other posters. We are a young, childless couple (hoping to end that trend soon ;) ) It is always a pleasure to see well-behaved children out at a restaurant. Both times we have been to CG, there have been plenty of children. Plus, this is WDW!!!!

Take them and ENJOY it!!!!!

Children in DW should be able to go anywhere they and their parents desire. Anyone who questions this should chose another vacation spot besides DW. Children and adults having fun together is what Walt envisioned in his plan.
