So Who's registered for the Pirate Event

I'm in!:cool1:
Called this morning...Got a studio @ OKW 5/22-5/26!!
Got the Pirates Life for me Package!!!!
I then called event services and gave them my confirmation # right away, and they verified that they charges mde the $395, not the $700...

off topic sorry Vince and suzi I see your names everywhere and smile I live about 2 min from you!! I'm to much a of a pin trader newbie (really my kids to ever come to your events but it is so neat to see hometown folks loving disney like me this year I will actually be in WDW getting a Pand P pin!

Julianne, please if you are available come to our pin meet with your kids. We have MANY people come at ALL levels of trading! We even have some people who come without pins just to spend a little bit of time with people who "get" the love of Disney. We should have a kids only pin trading board (I haven't started working on it yet, but I should get it done), and if nothing else, you can meet traders and look at what pins they have.

We have been having our pin parties for years now and it has ALWAYS been a wonderful group of people. We would love it if you would come (especially since you say you are so close by) and we would enjoy meeting you and your children. Our son Tony who is 12 will be there for a bit of the meet. The meets tend to run long, so he usually will stay from about 1-5pm.

Please feel free to drop by even if you only stay for a few minutes!

Suzi

Suzi thank you for such a kind invite~ Nice to know it is not for just hard core traders However I will be WDW that day! A surprise trip for the kids (while DH is at a conference)SHHHH! I think my kids would flip though seeing all the pins. I will keep an eye for next's year event.

That would be a great idea for a kid's only pin trading board!!

(P.S. I live right across from RIO very close)

Julianne,

You couldn't BE much closer to us than the RIO. Unfortunately, the building where we warehouse the pins is for sale and we will not be having any additional meets there. I sent you a pm to see if we can arrange some time for you and your children to come and see the pins before we have to take them down.

Disney Gallery website posted the event itineraries for each package

Hi all:wave2:

I am new to this board-usually on the DVC or rumors. I am very interested in this event, and would love to go, but I don't really collect anything as far as art, pins, etc. But the event looks fun. Would I be wasting my money? Is the entertainment and extras worth it??

I was going to bring DD with me. We are BIG pirate fans.
Thanks for any input you have!

Did you notice on the website that if you stay in your DVC on points then it is $395 instead of $700? Just wanted to make sure you were aware of that...Thats what sealed the deal for me...I am obsessed w/POTC (see my siggie!) but when it was $700, I kept talking myself out of it....But when I realized I could use my points I couldn't resist..
I have never been to an event like this, either..So I can't give any advise but it should be a blast!

pirate:

Check the itineraries and see if you think it might appeal to you. The top package is sold out but both the 2nd and 3rd tiers are available.

I don't collect Pirates memorabilia either......I'm going for the experience.

If nothing else.......you get to see the 3rd Pirates movie with a theater full of Disney fans. I saw Pirates II twice. Once was at the Disney Pirates event in NYC with hundreds of Disney/Pirates fans. Once was in a regular theater a few months later.

There is something to be said for seeing the movie with Pirates fanatics!! The excitement in the air was incredible. So different seeing it with "regular people". Very calm.

I had a great time at that event which is why I am doing this one. At that event Crash McCreery was there as well as Jason Surrell. Not only did they have a Meet and Greet where they were kind enough to sign autographs but they spent time with each and every fan, answering questions and posing for pictures. THEN, they participated in a seminar and answered questions and gave insight into the making of the Pirates movies. It was great!!! pirate:

The auction and the silent auction were fun, fast and furious. I didn't win anything but I bid!! I made the guy who won......pay a LOT!!!! :scared1: :rotfl:

Plus you get to eat. The 2nd tier (Pirates Life For Me) gets 2 dinners and breakfast. 3rd tier (X Marks the Fun) get one dinner. The food at NYC was awesome and I have food allergies....but it was fine for me.

As athenna mentioned if you decide to go for the Pirates Life For Me package you get a DVC discount. I booked the event.......then called Member Services to book, then called Special Events with the confirmation number.

Hope that helps!!

Thanks to both of you. I am still trying to decide, but I did call and find out about the discount. When I called to ask about the event, the guy told me that it was merchandise driven. I said "Is there stuff for the kids? I want to bring my daughter who is 7." He said well, there is a dinner. Kids like to eat.
Which did not really convince me.

Kathie: Was the Pirates event you went to a merchandise event as well, similar to this one? I am just worried that we will have spent all that money to go look at art. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it is not the reason I want to go.

Any more info would be very appreciated!

Stacy...it was very similar as far as the Merchandise items on the Random Selection Form, the auction and the silent auction.

We also got the meet and greet as I mentioned and the seminar/talk with the guests which was very informative. To be honest, I don't know how much a 7 year old will be interested in seminars or seeing movie props, but people have and do bring their children. She will like the movie and the games.

For the Pirates Life for Me you will get:

**Walt Disney Classics Collection Seminar -----most likely will discuss how the sculptures are made and will showcase new pieces coming out
**Up and Close with Special Guest(s) Like the NYC event with Meet & Greet and discussion about the movie/ride
**Artists Signings-----this is usually the artists that designed the merchandise available for sale.
**Games of Chance to Add to Your “Booty” -----Your daughter will probably do better than me. I stink at these games. :confused3
**Special Open Skull Session -----No clue what this is.

All of this is in addition to the live auction and silent auction the meals and the movie.

Another option is Public Day on Friday. It doesn't state that there is a charge to get in or what it entails except that the artists will be available for signings and you don't get to see the movie.

Regarding the silent and live auction. In NYC in both auctions, Disney had actual props from both Pirates movies. It was very cool to see them. One was a spear from one of the headhunters. It was fun trying to find it when we saw the movie. People are crazy too. The guy that outbid me in the slient auction bought almost every other lot. I think he spent about $40K total. :scared1:

Disney is all about merchandise. That's where they make their money. They couldn't do the rest of the event if they didn't sell you something. They throw merchandise at you everywhere. You come off almost every ride right into a gift shop.

I did state that I don't collect Pirates stuff .......but I DO collect Harmony Kingdom Boxes. So see.....they got me.....TWICE!!!! :teacher: :upsidedow :rotfl2:

I hope that helps a bit!!

Thanks so much-I am surprised how hard of a time I have had trying to get info on this. My daughter will be very interested-she loves art, and loves the movies, and especially loves Disney. I thought it would be a neat difference experience for both of us.

I really appreciate all your help. You did a better job than the guest services member that told me "kids like to eat"!!

I'm glad I could help.

I can understand how some of the CM's at Event Services would have a hard time describing the event. Most of the time they don't go as attendees. If they go at all, they go as employees. You would think they would have some kind of a description like I wrote for people that call with questions!! Thank goodness for the DISboards!! :thumbsup2

Any other questions, feel free to post. Maybe we'll see you there!

I'm jealous. While I would adore to go to this event, but Teddy Bear and Doll is immediately preceeding this (ends on Sunday and this event starts Tuesday if I'm not mistaken.) I'm already doing TB&D again so I'll just miss this and all of you.
If any of you will be in town the weekend prior (18th) let me know as I'd love to see so many of you once again.
Have fun at the Pirate Event! If I could extend my stay believe me I would.

I will be there on the 19th but you will already be at the event.

I just looked at the Disney Gallery site and they don't have the merchandise posted. I can't say I am surprised but it sure is a lot to ask people to register for an event and NOT know what is going to be available for sale. They do list the artists but no pictures or descriptions. Seems to be a lot more artists than previous years!

Hope you have a good time. I may try to go on Public day. We'll see how that goes. Maybe I'll see you in the parks!

I'll look for you.
I know that Steiff is going to do the Minnie Mouse to match the Mickey they did last year (at least that is what they told me last year.) That is the only piece that I'm fairly certain on what it will be (and yes, I'll be buying it to go with Mickey.)
They are notorious for not having the event merchandise up until much closer to the dates (as the artists are usually still working on the items.)
Hope to see you there (although we are flying home on that Sunday.)
Sue Ellen

I forgot to add, I may need to bribe someone attending the pirate event to get me the Pirate Mickey ink and paint cell to go with my ink and paint collection.

Sue Ellen

Thanks! I'll keep watching the Gallery site as well. I didn't get the Mickey Steiff last year although he was being sold after the event. I did contemplate getting him because I collect the Disney Bear but decided I didn't need it. I'm getting better!!!

I was just curious to see if there was anything Peter Pan/Tinker Bell themed this year.....or the Disney Bear (aside from the Steiff). I collect both of those.

Re the cels:

There are only 250 out of 2500 available on the RSP at the Event and those will have a special backstamp and a gold pin. 750 (they are not on the RSP according to the Disneygallery site) will have a colored pin and no backstamp. The question is...........where will the 1500 cels left in the edition size be and what kind of pin (if any) will they have??? :confused3

Unless the gold pin and backstamp are important to you, you should be able to find the cel at all the Art of Disney Stores after the event. With or without a pin....THAT is the question!!!

In the past, when a new Ink & Paint cel was being released, The Art of Disney in MGM would "reserve" one for you if you pre-paid and then they would ship it to you when it became available. I think they still offer that service so you might want to check with them while you are there.......unless you really want the gold pin.

I'm going with my grandparents. They're taking me for 8th grade graduation!
I have a question,is anybody taking their kids?!!!
I would love to know,I don't want to be the only kid in a room full of old people!:rotfl: ;) JK! Fossils are fun!:rotfl:
Seriously though, anyone have any kids going?

I am sure that there will be some kids in the "X Marks the Fun" package. I would imagine there will be few if any children in the "Ye Swabs" package.
