So who's going on the DVC Cruise in 2/2003

Sgt, I find your working that out simply fascinating, and just reinforces how difficult it will be to get on this cruise, even with all the vocal naysayers on this board.

I would give you more information on the subject. I wouldn't call the decision just based on what the website and postcard and even what DVC1996 has had to say about it. I do remember the trip reports from the April DVC members cruise. I remember absolutely glowing reports on it. That alone is enough motivation for me. Not everything is about the price tag

I would expect this one to be a good bit more than even that one was, being it'll be all members only.

Now, about gettting more information, for me that would take away a good deal of the magic of Disney if all the details of the itenerary were divulged before the actual trip. I think enough has been given in that there will be 2 separate days at CC, and the fact it will be a very member oriented cruise. Any further details about what they're going to do different for us members should remain a surprise till the very last minute.

BaileyBrad.......It doesn't matter to me whether or not others agree with me or not. Everyone has to make the decision that is best for their family and vacation style. You are entitled to your opinion and if the majority on this board agree with you then that's fine. I didn't know this was a contest of some kind. I thought posters wanted to know how the previous DVC cruise was and I gave my honest opinion since I went on the April cruise. In fact....dh stated today that the best part of the cruise was meeting with other DVCers since he personally doesn't care for cruising and would rather spend his vacations on land. So, once again, different strokes for different folks. I think enough has been said on this topic from me. Peace.

For some reason I couldn't post a vote, but we're a NO for the same reason as other post'rs - not wanting to spend more points for basically the same cruise. I don't feel an extra day at CC and/or spending 4 days with only DVC members constitutes paying more for the cruise than the cruisers prior to and after this "special" cruise.

Just an interesting FYI

I counted 28 people who posted a comment to this board. I broke them down into the following categories based on their comments

A.) 9 aren't going cuz their mad as the hatter about the number of points

B.) 10 aren't going, but wouldn't have gone anyway

C.) 5 are going. (have a great time!)

D.) 4 posted pretty even-handed comments so I couldn't tell if they were going or not. (which makes me believe they are probably in categories B or C and just don't want to get flamed)

We're going. The points or costs involved in paying for our vacations is not the primary reason for our vacations. I guess that's why I purchased in DVC in the first place.

We're on the fence about this one. I actually haven't even looked at the points/cash posting yet, but I've been reading all these comments. My initial thought was that it would be a great introduction to cruising for my 5yo DD. It would also be a good test for my DH who has developed motion sickness. We have previously cruised 3 times but that was before the incident which has caused this motion sickness. Anyhow, I'm now going over to the posting about the points and points. Which side of the fence do I fall on? I'll let you know.

Initially, DH & myself were very interested in going on the DVC 4-day cruise & changing our Jan. 2003 vacation plans. It sounded great--for DVC members only and 2 days at Castaway Cay! BUT...when it was posted that not only was the point cost MORE, the CASH price would be MORE than a value-season 4-day cruise,...well, we decided we would not do it.
Yes, we were somewhat disappointed! I'm guessing that Disney Cruise Line may not have sold out this cruise anyway (early Feb) and, IMHO, if they wanted to make a specialty DVC cruise really "special", they would NOT have charged DVC members MORE. If we are going to pay for many of the "extras" that they are adding, it didn't seem so special to me. Again, just my opinion, but, it didn't seem special enough to me/our family to change our future plans.
For those that choose to do it, I sincerely hope you all have a great time.
I'm hoping that they won't be able to sell this DVC cruise out as easily as they are planning--but, it appears there could be enough willing to pay that it may sell out on Sat. August 24th. I don't like that DVC members as a group may be that predictable! I'd like to see more REAL "specials" for DVC members in the future, but, I don't have expectations--if we get some perks, great! After all...I know, I know--I bought an interest in DVC accomodations--that's all.
If this cruise doesn't sell as quickly as planned, DVCers that are reserved to go may only benefit as they may actually reduce the cost/add more extras? I hope that they do give more to the DVCer's that are going--as I think they've probably paid for it!!

At first I was very excited about the DVC cruise as I've been trying to get DH to go on a cruise for some time. We were actually going to go, but then I realized that the timing isn't great with regard to my job. It just isn't good timing as it falls during tax season and that's not good for me, so we are unable to go. If the timing was different as far as my job, by all means we would be there, but I had to vote no on this one.

Count me out. Although it would be a great way to celebrate DS's birthday on February 2nd, we can't pull him from school/hockey for this. Also, we have already made arrangements for our first trip home in June 2003. We would like to cruise in 2004 so if Disney decides to have another DVC members only cruise that fits into our crazy schedules we would do it in a heartbeat! Hope all those that do go on this cruise have a great time and will love to hear all about it upon your return.

I won't be going on the cruise, first because I can't get away that week anyway and second because I already have plans for my points next year that I don't want to change. If my vacation time were more flexible and if I did have the points available, I think I'd cruise either the week before or the week after when I could do so for less points.

Do I fault anyone else who is choosing to go? Absolutely not. I appreciate when others respect my right to make choices without being criticized. Likewise, I respect all of you and your right to make choices with your points that will give you enjoyment. That's the fun of being a DVC owner - weighing all the factors and then putting those points to work in a way that will bring each of us the most pleasure. We all weigh the factors differently and bring our own viewpoints to the process, and that's okay too. (Wow, this paragraph sounds like touchy-feely mumbo jumbo.
But it's what I think, so I'll leave it as is.)

This DVC cruise has certainly caused some interesting conversation here on the boards. Never a dull moment!

I finally cast my vote today as a "No" even though I feel it will be worth the extra points and would love to go again. We are currently point poor and cash poor after two vacations already this year and another WDW vacation with my sister scheduled in October. My only "negative" about this cruise is it being in February. I would have preferred a warmer month since I am a "southern girl" who doesn't swim unless it's really hot! Also....my Use Year is in March and if it had been in April I could have borrowed pts for the cruise. For those of you going......I am sooooooo jealous and hope you have a truly magical cruise!

I haven't voted yet because I'm not sure if we're going. I booked this cruise in Feb 2002, payed the "regular" price thru DU. Waiting to hear from them as to what our position is, they are out till Monday, 8/26. If I keep my current ressies and price, the answer will be yes, if they want an additional amount the answer will be a "NO" with an explanation to Disney as to why.

We're going! And by the looks of it, so are a bunch of our freinds! It's going to be a blast with 2 days at Castaway Cay! This is only available to DVC members, and that's special enough for me.
