My hours have been cut and I am job searching when I can...saw an ad for a food service co., not too farfrom my home and would coincide w.my sins days off ( most, anyway) but the thought of no pay over the summer is huge...I know I could try for a summer job, but they are not as abundant as in the past. Any folks who do this and DON'T like it? My son is praying I don't try for this, btw...he says it si social suicide for him...:rotfl2: like he's BMOC (Big Man On Campus )

TIA,

Pam

I am! I love it actually. I cashier at the high school. I work 10-2, same days off as my kids and I get free lunch. :lmao:

Its an awesome job and I really enjoy it. As long as its a fun kitchen and everyone gets along thats its great.

BTW- my son goes to the same school I work at and its no big deal. A lot of kids that I know will come in to chat even.

I say go for it!

I used to do it - and really enjoyed it.. The company I worked for allowed you to collect unemployment during the summer as long as you planned on returning in the fall.. Have you checked to see if this company offers that option?

thanks for the info...as luck would have it I called back and the job is gone already....but they have my name/application on file.
I don't think they allow the unemployment thing, but something to look into. Positions within the school district are like gold. Our district is huge, but the jobs go quick!
I will keep checking into it as they mentioned that sometimes substitutes or floaters are needed...you call in each day and see if there is need. Not as nice as a set schedule, but I guess you would know that you have the same dasy off as your kid which is AWESOME!

We could be twins. I also cashier at the high school. Work 10 to 2. Only difference is my daughter goes to the same school. We all get along too. Just wish the company of worked for wasn't so darn cheap.

I am not but would love to be!!! It's one of the jobs that I would love to do once we are done having kids and they are in school. I say go for it.

I should clarify ... I would like to run the lunch room!! It works with my education and background.

I did it for the last 2 yrs. Not doing it this year. Too much going on with moving.:headache:

I was a server/fruit & veg prep for my food line. My boss was awesome and the system was wonderful.

I worked as a sub the first year which was OK. Got to know that some schools were better than others.

Burned myself alot.:lmao: Hard work, but easy.:thumbsup2

So is your lunch room an outside company or part of the district? We are part of the district (union) by independently funded.
When I first applied for the position and they told me what it paid my first thought was "no wonder why my property taxes are so damn high!" But then they explained it to me. I felt better. :lmao:

DMickey28, come up my way, that job is currently posted at our school. ;)
I thought about applying for it, and I probably could get it (because of my background too) but I like the flexibility of my job. Less responsibilities and if I take a week off to go on vacation its a whole lot easier than if I was the boss.

Outside. Wish it was district cause then we would have union and no doubt a little better pay. Funny thing is the company I work for is on the Fortune 500 list. Our pay explains why that is.
