The Grand Floridian just looks sort of "froo-froo" to us. DH likes casual, relax, put up your feet, and although he's been in the GF, he just wasn't comfortable. And since MK isn't our favorite park, the convenience to there isn't a draw. The fact that it appeals to some just confirms what I already knew-there's a big variety in DVC resorts, and we all have different favorites. But since the announcement, I'm hearing such love for the GF, I'm feeling alone in my "so what". Please tell me someone else isn't a big GF fan. It seems like everyone is today!

I personally prefer the crescent Lake resorts. I doubt very much I wold be clammering for a GF stay. Possible the Poly if that ever come through. I suspect that Disney is trying to close the options to stay at a Non-DVC resort. They are down to the Poly, Yacht Club, Fort Wilderness, Carribean Beach, Coronado and Port Orleans.

We used the option when we had booked a cruise with or points and then it fell through. Everytime they build a DVC next to a resort, it is one less option taken off the table.

Me! I've never had any desire to stay at the GF so the villas don't hold much appeal to me. I like my luxury weekends away with DH, but when I'm at WDW I want laidback & relaxed - I just don't have that feeling when wandering aorund GF.

i agree with you 100%. i go eat lunch at the cafe but no desire to stay there ever. plus i'm sure it will be too many points and way too much to buy into. now the poly might sway me..

I do think that those who prefer the Epcot resorts would have no interest in the GF and the same with those of us that own BLT and like it. However, I have to admit that I've always wanted to stay at the GF just once. It's not a resort I would return to over and over. But I could say the same about many of the DVC resorts. We chose our home resorts because they fit us.

The resort does remind me more of a deluxe hotel in any city but many of the CMs seem friendly when we have talked to them.

I've always said GF would be the only resort that would make me consider selling my BWV points. It was the first resort I stayed at in 1994 and I stayed there when I took my niece in 1999 (both before DVC), loved it. I have no interest in BLT because of the decor, not my thing.

However, now it really does not make sense for me to buy GF. With the BWV resale value falling and the high cost of the new resort points, the difference is just too much, more than double. Plus I'll be 54 by the time it opens. I'll roll the dice at 7 months just to check it out. Another factor is the higher points per night at the new resorts, I like a 1 bedroom and the points are too high, I would only probably be able to do a studio.

Plus with the boardwalk view category at BWV, I've grown to love that. I hated it when you booked preferred and boardwalk view was just a request, it was a gamble. So I just booked standard to save points rather than gamble. When the separate category came out, I've booked it every time and don't want to give that up.

We stayed at the GF several years ago on the buy four get three deal. We had a very nice stay. We also stayed at AKL and CR before DVC resorts were built there and thought they were very nice.

But we're not big fans of the DVC resorts built at CR and AKL, so we don't stay there and wouldn't buy there. We won't buy any more points, so we certainly won't buy any points to stay at the GFV. And if the point structure is similar to BLT, we probably won't stay there either.

GF is my absolute favorite resort at WDW. I am just sad I own too many points already even to consider buying there. It would not be worth selling my points in order to buy there. I hope there is alot of people that don't like it so I can get in at 7 months.

I'm buying in at the villas at the Grand Floridian, just like I bought in at BLT.

MEE! I think it is a total waste. I hate the resort to begin with. I stayed once and vowed to never go back. I wasn't impressed at all. The only nice thing about the place is the lobby. I thought the rooms were no different than a regular hotel anywhere. I would have been happier with the Poly or just another resort all together.

GF is very nice but I wouldn't own there. We have owned every timeshare at Disney except Wilderness and Hilton Head over the last 15 years. Boardwalk was our second behind Vero and we always end up staying there because of the location. Bay Lake rooms are very nice as I am sure GF rooms will be as well.

I'm sure GFV will be very nice- and I DO look forward to hopefully getting the chance to stay there at some point. That said- being from South Carolina (and close to coastal Georgia, and northern Florida, etc.) where we have lots of traditional Inns and resorts, etc. with a similar style to the GF- I was (and remain) much more attracted to the sort of "Miami Beach" urban apartment tower look and feel of BLT. It just makes our vacations feel like we've gone somewhere completely different (especially when you factor in a theme park view, monorails coming and going, modern design etc.)- even though we're only 5 hours down the road or so...

That said- I can easily imagine a family in snowy and icy New York City or Boston arriving at GFV and feeling like they've completely escaped to some place equally magical and different too...

I suppose that's the beauty of DVC...:santa:

It sounds like the points per room will be high, so if that ends up being true, We wouldn't mind staying there but it will be in a studio for just the two of us. If it's the main family vacation, we will use our points for a 2br elsewhere. We will not be buying any points for VGF, but I am glad to see we members have another choice.

As others have posted, we might like to try staying there once but prefer BWV location because it is close to 2 parks. I am Grandma age but something about the GF seems to remind me of that fact too much! :rotfl:

I would be like a fish out of water at GF. It is beautiful, but just not in my comfort zone.

I am sitting on the fence right now. I want to see the room interiors to make a more informed choice. I don't really care for the hotel rooms at the GF, but the DVC rooms could be more to my liking, who knows?

With the points required to stay and buy in, I think I would rather add on at BWV, BCV or VWL before buying at GFV's. We do LOVE the location of BLT and would be happy with the location of GFV's. But the BLT and BWV location is hard to beat for us.

Drawings look impressive. I have always thought GF was the best MK resort. But would I buy there? Here is the likely reason why I will stick with BWV my home resort:

BWV 2BR Boardwalk View, Oct Food & Wine Fest, One week: 283 points.

GF 2BR MK View, same time: likely 460 points

And I am being conservative by assuming only a 20% increase over BLT MK view which itself was a 28% increase over BWV boardwalk view.

Would love a Poly villas, now that would excite me

I agree with the bold part. I am not a fan of CR at all but I really enjoyed and liked my stay at BLT. So even though I have no desire to stay at GF (other than to just mark it off my list of places stayed) the GFV might interest me.
