So what's the difference between brands sold at high end store and Target?

I've been noticing Target getting in more and more high end names, but I do notice that they all have their own name line. Like Calphalon's line is Kitchen Essentials, and OXO is soft grips.

So what's the difference between the stuff that's sold at William Sonoma or Sur La Table vs Target or Walmart? Is it better in the long run to buy the more expensive stuff?

They are usually made of less expensive materials .

I love kitchen gadgets and usually go middle of the road for price. I don't think super expensive stuff really equals better (there may be a few exceptions) but I won't buy the cheap, clearly poorly made crap.

It's the same company name, but I don't know if it's the same quality products. Even the knife sets seem to have high end names like Henckels and Chicago Cutlery. Target sells a 3 piece Henckels knife set for $30 (including a paring knife), but only a 3" paring knife at William Sonoma and Sur la Table is $40.

Cheaper material. On the knives are the handles all one piece of steel? How is it attached ro the handle. There are differences. You have to decide if it's worth the higher price for the differences. Something like a knife I would think you get what you pay for.

I just looked them up and it's different metal, on is High carbon stainless steel the other is a lighter grade of steel. It's 10 times more expensive for the high carbon set. I would give the $30 set a try. I'm guessing they need sharpening more and eventually with thinner material it could wear down but at $30 I would try it.

All comes down to quality of materials; unfortunately though some people assume they are the same and getting a bargain at Target or the like versus higher end stores. Rather, they are just paying for a lesser quality product, which may be okay for some people, but they really are not getting the true product experience.

This can be a bad thing for some brands because if you want people to eventually move up market, it can be hard if they have a lesser than main line experience with their lower end product. It can also hurt reputation if people broadbrush all of the product lines versus the one product line.
