Well, it's midnight and I'm sitting here drinking some wine and trying to not be too negative. I had a trip planned in Dec. w/ my Mom and we had to cancel it because of my Dad's health. Now I also had planned to take her a year ago in Dec. and had to cancel that one ... so I lost lots of money. But Dad is more important than money. I planned a trip leaving this coming Saturday and staying at AKV concierge level using DVC points that have been building up. Originally I was going to bring someone else but then I changed things and decided to bring Mom since things have been so rough with my Dad and we both need a break. For 11 months I've had this reservation and even booked the Sunrise Safari. I've been anxiously waiting for Saturday and guess what? Dad is back in the hospital! We took him in tonight and it's pneumonia this time, I just got home from the hospital. He had a stroke a month ago and now this. Sometimes I think I have a black cloud over my head. So tomorrow instead of looking forward to my trip I have to start cancelling everything. Well, on the positive side my DVC points may be lost but at least I got the insurance on the airfare this time! I have to laugh because the alternative isn't pretty!!

I am so sorry to hear this. I hope your dad feels better real soon.

Sue my thoughts are with you right now

My parents getting older is one of the things I am least looking forward to about growing up. My mother is not that old, but she is not a small woman, and I constantly try to bring better food choices into the house. Unfortunately it's hard to argue with her "you only live once mentality," only problem being is we're the ones that are going to have to take care of her when she gets older. As you can see my motives aren't entirely altruistic.

Thanks everyone! I took care of all the cancellations yesterday ... would have been on a plane in couple hours ... but really I'm ok with it. My DVC points are in a holding account so that's good.

Yup, it's tough taking care of the parents. I'm the youngest but for various reasons it's on my my shoulders. I'm not complaining at all, but sometimes there aren't enough hours in the day between work and them. The hospital has been pumping him full of antiobiotics so they should have the pneumonia under control. Hopefully I'll verify today that he didn't have another stroke. And the sun shining and it's going to be in the 40s ... I'll take what I can get! Thanks again!

I managed to get three freelance design jobs (all completely unrelated and by different people) within a 24 hour period. These couldn't have come at a better time, trust me.

One of the design jobs I landed was from a woman who is starting her own dance class studio. What's the type of dance that will be taught at this studio, you ask? "Erotic and suggestive" dance for adults.

Here's the sickeningly disturbing part. The woman was referred to me.....by my mother...........who will be teaching one of these classes!!! My mom's been a dance teacher for over 20 years....but........oh jeez.....
