I was just checking for next August and they have pretty decent prices, flying out of Boston-Orlando. Around $850 for 5 of us. Are they filing bankruptcy or are they going down hill??? I don't want to buy something and then have to worry about finding another flight, plus, I'd rather fly out of MHT, but if the price is good....

They are being merged back with Delta, Song will no longer be operated separately. The Song planes will be redeployed for Delta's coast to coast flights. Delta has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy, which means they are reorganizing. I wouldn't be concerned about them going out of business but they may be rearranging flights.

So, do you think it would be safe to book with them now for next August?

Hello,

As stated above Song will merge back into Delta. Deltas has filed. As of today, they are still in negotiations with their pilots. If the talks fail, the pilots have threatened to go on strike which will put the airline under.

Delta is losing 5 Million a day! I would be careful. No insurance will cover you because they have filed for bankruptcy already. The insurance only covers "unforeseen" strikes and because there is already talk, the insurance companies will not cover it.

For next August, I would not be buying tickets on Delta.

I personally would NOT book with them. I'll give you a quick story. We had a flight booked with them 3 months ago. We are returning to LAX on Jan.7. They just up and cancelled the flight this weekend. Now we have layovers in Atlanta. We booked this flight because it was direct. AND,we are no longer on Song coming home, it is Delta now. It's a huge mess. To top everything off, the flight from Atlanta they have us on appears overbooked. I bet you they will be bumping people all over the place.

My SIL is getting married in Aug. My entire extended family is flying in from BOS to LAX for the wedding. I recommended SONG and they booked. Now I am afraid they will all get bumped all over the place too. We'll see what happens. I know it doesn't look good for them.

I know the price looks good but you need to take your confidence into considereation as well.

Good luck!

Have you checked Allegiant Air? They're now flying from Portsmouth to Sanford and their rates are very good. We flew Allegiant last month and I would definitely recommend them. My DH and I have Song travel vouchers that I wanted to use in May but I'm a little uneasy about booking Song right now - we may go with Allegiant instead unless JetBlue or SW has a good sale this winter.

This is how it works:

1. Airline declares bankruptcy.

2. Travelers start booking on different airlines.

3. Airline sees bookings dwindle.

4. Airline appeals to government for help.

5. Government orders other airlines to honor tickets in case bankrupt airline stops flying.

Step 2 is important to keep the ball rolling.

The last time the complete sequence happened, step 5 expired on or about November 18, 2005.

Delta and Song flights have always been substitutable one for the other. If you booked on Delta's website, Song flights are shown.

OT: Disneynutbsv, great pictures of your kids....and I have never seen anyone put up a countdown clock for ADR's...very cleaver.

SeashoreCM-I should have been more clear. They are now on an actual DELTA plane not a SOng plane. I am fully aware that Delta/Song flight codes and such are the same. My point WAS, it is no longer a SONG plane or original flight. Song would have taken us directly home and now there is a layover and plane change. I hope I am clear now.

I am glad I read this thread. I was thinking about booking song over jetblue because I like the time better and it is $10 cheaper per ticket. Now I think I will just book with jetblue. Thanks for the info!

There are a lot of if's when it comes to a pilot strike. I doubt it will happen (pilot strike). SWA pilots and other unions are up next year for a new contract are people not going to fly SW because the pilots MAY strike?
