What are the steps we need to follow if we do happen to test Positive, be in close-contact or display symptoms leading up our cruise? And what info will we need to provide DCL?

If within 14 days of embarkation you should contact DCL, inform them you need to cancel due to Covid exposure/positive, and they will process a refund. No documentation necessary.

I tried researching the very same question prior to our Jan 3 cruise which we ended up canceling. I found it VERY hard, actually impossible! to get an official answer. Obviously Disney can’t say they will take you to the airport, what an outcry if people found out Disney was dumping infectious people at MCO. Likewise if they said they had an agreement with XYZ Hotel no one else would book there.

My husband and I decided the only moral alternative was to rent a car and drive back to upstate New York. Out plan had been to get away from winter weather not risk having to drive through it.

If your question is what happens a couple days prior to the cruise, canceling is easy IF you have insurance.

No need for insurance. DCL is allowing cancellation within 14 days of embarkation if exposed to or positive for covid. Full refund, no penalty.

As for testing positive at embarkation -- DCL will refund or credit towards a future cruise. They offer transportation back to Orlando wherever you want -- MCO or hotel or other. But it is on you to make those alternative plans; DCL does not put you up in a designated hotel or provide transport home.

You just call & tell them. You'll have the option of moving your sail date or getting a full refund. No strings, no being grilled with a lot of questions, no paperwork.

Refunded money should appear in your account within days. At least, it did in my case. And I didn't use insurance. The refund is from DCL, not an insurance company, because they don't want sick guests. It totally bypasses the insurance process. Insurance is for when you cancel. In this case, it's basically you giving DCL info that makes them cancel or move your reservation, because they don't want contagious people onboard or even at the port if they can help it. "Sorry we can't let you sail so here's your money back" is basically the gist of it.

If we test positive at the port and decide to get credit for a future cruise, do we have to pay for insurance again? Or is our insurance forwarded to the next cruise?

I didn't buy insurance so I can't answer that. I don't see the point of buying DCL insurance right now, since they're going to refund your money if you are denied boarding, or if you claim Covid symptoms or exposure within 14 days prior to the cruise. It's so easy to get the cruise money back that no one really needs cancellation insurance for the cruise portion of the trip. I buy private insurance for overseas medical emergencies only for these cruises. That insurance can certainly be moved to a later sail date.

I think you need to pay for insurance again

thank you. I’ve been following closely and because of this policy, I’ve not added outside insurance yet. Once we get closer, we will add if we are more confident we might make it. My daughter/family are flying in so needs it for trip interruption (not part of dcl insurance). We are driving and would need the insurance if we make it onboard, but our Heath takes a nose dive. It will be a miracle if we make it. Traveling with 2 high schoolers and their law enforcement dad….all are fully vaxed, boostered (the teens get their boosters today) and flu shot Too. I suggested bubble wrap too, my mom said no.

I'd agree with this. My parents made the decision to move the cruise they were to have been on last week. My sister and I were both very clear with them to say "We need to move the cruise because of exposure to COVID" - and as they usher at Tennessee Performing Arts Center and ushered pretty much the entire last week of the Nutcracker it's almost a guarantee they were - which they did and had no issues. And I love him dearly, but if someone can overcomplicate things it's my dad - and he had NO issues doing it.

IMO thats whats crazy about all this -

DCL Guests who have tested positive at the port yet ask DCL officials to take them back to MCO.
AND DCL REPS TAKE THEM BACK TO MCO!!!
"Dumping" is to me an applicable word as DCL is merely moving the Dumpee off their curb while making it someone else's problem so they can maximize their profits.

This IMO is so wrong.
So.... on behalf of IMO the minority, thank you for doing the Moral thing here as as much as I hate saying it, my TA will be getting an email no later than Monday as I too will be canceling my 4 day DCl/ 5 day WDW adventure and moving on .

- interesting times we live in -
