So, what do we *really* need to take to the park?

If you read the lists of things to take with you, I'd need a rolling carry-on to take it all into the park with us.

We are a family of 4 - me, dh, ds10 & ds8. I'd like to limit our "luggage" to 4 coin purses on lanyards and either a fanny pack (decent sized) or a hipster-type bag. I might *possibly* have the boys carry small fanny packs, just big enough for a couple of treats and some crystal light packets.

So, what do I really *need* to take?

I would think with the ages of your kids, you shouldn't need to carry more than what would fit in a hip pouch or small sling backback.

My kids were younger on our last trip (5 and almost 3) and I carried the following in a sling-type backpack:

- Small wallet w/ KTTW, debit card and some cash
- Autograph books (2)/pen
- Camera
- Son's inhaler, EpiPen and Benadryl
- M&M container with quarters/pennies for pressing
- Small hand sanitizer

and some crystal light packets.

I hadn't thought about this........great idea!

This sounds perfect! I bought 2 child sized fanny packs for my dds, and a really cute Camo/Mickey fanny pack for me. When mine came in, I was surprised at how small it was. I was nervous about fitting everything, but what you have listed will fit (minus the inhaler & EpiPen). I was thinking that is all we really need.

We had a camp towel, baby wipes (small container, like 15), hand sanitizer, camera, brush, money for pressed pennies, very small first aid kit, medicines, our cards, my phone, ponchos, chapstick, lanyards with pins for trading and autograph books,

All of this fit into my baggallini (DSLR camera). It was pretty full, but it worked out.

OK, that sounds good.

I'm adding:
~ bandaids & moleskin
~ small sunscreen (the little one on the carabiner - refill each am)
~ small tylenol tube (kids can take 350 mg tylenol or 200 mg ibuprofen)

and subtracting:
~ autograph books (I don't plan to go into this one with the boys :rolleyes1 )
~ epipen, etc

Oh, yes, chapstick and a 10 pk of baby wipes.

I can see me getting a little bit full here...

how bout rain ponchos>>>>>> I always travel with them to the parks. You will be buying expensive ones otherwise...
I AM SOOOO GONNA MISS GOING TO THE PARKS WITH A STROLLER SOMEDAY. ITS JUST SO MUCH EASIER TO PUT IT UNDER THE SEAT AND GO!

I have to agree on sunscreen completely.

Sooooo.....

~ credit card, cash, tix
~ small camera
~ small hand sanitizer
~ wipes
~ first aid (moleskin, bandaids, triple antibiotic[small], tylenol/ibuprofen)
~ phone
~ sunscreen (w/ carabiner)
~ chapstick w/sunscreen
~ crystal light packets
~ compact snacks
~ glow bracelets (night time only, take up snack space)

Still out on ponchos. I can see the need, but the ones I've seen are BIG, except for the cheap sposies from WM. I could fit those in the zipper area under the crown of each person's hat, I think.

And everyone has a carabiner with a water bottle holder on it, to refill in the parks.

Gum, wash cloths in baggies you are going when it is warm & if you get them wet(& ice) it cools you down & makes you feel cooler, ponchos & coins for penny machine.

I have to say, I read this as: "Gun, wash cloths in baggies...." and thought, "what the--??" for a second. :rotfl2:

Money. Water, soda, snacks, lunch, souvineers, rain ponchos....big bucks. If you have enough money you can get anything you need in the park.

But if you only do photo pass you won't need a camera and if you buy any incedentals then you could go in bagless.

The ONLY bag you need: Overland Donner Bag. It's PERFECT for WDW...and I even use it at home as my "primary" bag for going to the park, mall, etc. with my kids (they're 3 and 5, though). I personally find the Baggalini bags to be ugly...but this bag is so nice, sturdy, and just like a purse, and is has all these cool compartments and stuff. (the side pockets for water bottles are my favorite!).

I have to tell you, these "lists" are so funny; not the ones here, but the ones you find on planning books and sites that have everything but the kitchen sink on them.

First of all, as far as first aid goes, there is a first aid station in every park. You don't need bandaids, antibiotic cream, and moleskin with you. Bring it and keep it in your room, but every park has a first aid station, and they are easily accessible. So, just go there if you need any of that stuff.

Ponchos: skip them, esp. in the summer. Bring those TINY travel umbrellas instead (one for each in your party). If it looks like rain, bring them along that day. Otherwise, just leave them in the hotel room. If you get hit with a p.m. thunderstorm, just duck into a shop or ride until it's over.

DEFINITELY bring sunscreen! The small one on the carbinger is good. Chapstick with SPF is also essential!

Antibacterial wipes (travel pack) is necessary.

Tylenol/Ibuprofen, in a little travel pill box.

SUNGLASSES

Camera

Gum or mints(WDW doesn't sell gum anywhere...)

Cell Phones (for you and DH to keep in touch if you separate)

So, what do I really *need* to take?

Definately need to bring: You, your family, tickets, money, camera, sunscreen, and cell phones. I can also see the need for sun glasses and wipes. Depending on where you live and the temps you are use to, you might also want to bring a cooling cloth (something like: http://www.froggtoggs.com/store/choose.asp?ItemNum=CP100&ItemType=% )

Others have said, gum and mints - - I am confused, why are these something that you really *need* in the park. There is a reason after all that the parks do not sell gum anywhere.

First aid kits - - well I don't bring one along when I bring the kids to a local park for the day, so why do I need one at Disney where they have first aid stations and Cast Members throughout the park who can help (I bet there are hidden first aid kits everywhere in the park).

Headache medication - - okay, I can see why some might bring this. But get the travel size ones, not a bottle or pills in a baggie you took out of a bottle.

This is what I carry:

small first aid kit - in ziploc with bandaids and advil
small hand sanitizer
trial size Clorox wipes
wallet
glasses/sunglasses
camera
autograph books
pens (bigger in size so it's easier for characters to hold)
ziploc bags ( you never know when you are going to need to put something wet in your bag)
small easily packed snacks-fruit snacks, individual packs of goldfish)
sunscreen of some kind
all necessary Disney paperwork (my itinerary, ADR #'s, park tickets)
cell phone

Most of these are small and light weight and fit into one shoulder bag. I would also think about what is important for your kids and their personal health needs.

I took in my backpack. deniem Jansport nothing fancy nothing cliped to it backpack. It had three folded rain ponchos in it, along with a small bottle of hand sanitzer and kleenex. I also carried my sunglasses and camera. My money/key/important cards were in a wristlet that was threaded through my belt loop and in my font pocket. I put the bottle of water I drank in my backpack. I also put the few small souvineers I bought in the back pack.

It worked out great for us, but we had no children.

I learned that you do need band-aids, sometimes. My DD got a blister right when we were getting ready to start a tour, and we weren't close to a first-aid station, so I went in a store and asked for a band-aid. I had to buy a whole little first aid kit for just one little band-aid, that I could have brought with me but didn't think about doing. It was like 2 years ago, but I think I paid around $5 for it--a lot for a band-aid! ;)

My kids are similar in age. Here are our needs:
-camera
-extra batteries (they run out at very bad times!)
-cell phone(s)
-autograph books
-pen(s)
-sunblock stick (I have a bottle which we use to apply some before leaving, but find a stick convenient for throwing in the backpack)
-little kool-aid packs to mix in w/ the free water from the CS places
-$/ tickets etc...
-large zip lock bag (we put things in this on the water rides, especially Kali for extra protection; also useful in protecting your things in case you get caught in a sudden down pour)

Depending on the time of year and the forecast, we also may have ponchos. It sound like a lot, but it all fit in one bag. Instead of having everyone carry their stuff, we took turns with the bag. It was easier for us to keep track of one bag. Your kids could have fanny packs with their books/ pens if you wanted.

RE: Gum/Mints

Yes, there is a reason why WDW doesn't sell gum...they don't want to have to clean it up when people stick it places or spit it on the ground.

BUT, *some* of us don't like to walk around with bad breath. ;) And some of us are used to chewing sugarless gum after meals...good dental hygiene you know! Heck, I chew about 5-7 pieces per day. I would DIE without my gum, so I bring it to WDW...in large amounts. :rotfl:

And, they DO sell mints at WDW, but not the cheap kind...just "Disney" branded ones. So, you know. If you care about such things as your breath, or having a "clean mouth feeling" then you need to bring this stuff with you every day.
