just looking for a solution here - the way I see it there is formal, semi-formal nights (we could do Palos dinner one of these nights or not at all)
Then there is Mexicali night. And 1 dinner in ea of the rotation restaurants. Wouldnt want to miss AP show.
Its not necessary to go back to the restaurants a 2nd night as long as we get to experience them at least once.
Do we plan on going to Topsiders after Grand Cayman, after Cozumel? How about Key West night? Im sure you can still see the sunset from Topsiders?
Any suggestions on when to skip which restaurant and still feel like we got to them all? Im confused enough about the rotations!

Try and isit them on the first night of your rotation that way you see the show in AP, they only do it once on your cruise. Go to Barb and Tonys site and read the menues and decide that way it might be easier. Good luck.

Which menu do you like the least? That's how I would decide. I think Barb's site also has menus for the different nights.

The menu I liked the least was the animators regular menu. so I would skip that one, but since you want to see the room light up you can't do that. The old parot cay menu was not too tempting but the new one looks great so I would not skip that, luminare's has the most devine fried camembert cheese for an appetizer I would NEVER miss that so I would probably skip small world or mexicalli.....

How about Key West night? Im sure you can still see the sunset from Topsiders?

imgoingtodisney - just make sure you're looking west...

Personally I wouldn't give up going to my regular restaurant anynight to go to topsiders, unless I got back late from a port and missed dinner. We enjoy spending the time with our regular serving staff because they get to know what you like. You don't give up any of the menus by going to topsiders, they serve the regular menu. I think you get your own appetizer/salads and deserts from the buffet and order the entree from a waiter. The view would probably be good but when I pay big bucks for the cruise I like at least 1 meal a day of being pampered. This is just my opinion. After 4 cruises we have never missed a meal of our rotation, no Palo and won't again on #5, we eat with the kids because 1 time last year they begged to eat with the kids club. That was it, they said they would never eat there again, so no problems getting them to the dining rooms.

markey,

I agree - we rarely miss our regular rotation and on cruise #5 finally went to Palo. The OP is looking for solutions because her DH doesn't want to wear long pants to dinner except for the two nights he's wearing a tux.

IGTD: here's my suggestion based on our May cruise.

We wanted to do Palo but wanted to be resort casual most of the time so asked for the APL rotation. This put us in Animator's the first night, Parrot Cay for Key West and Mexicali night, and Lumiere's for Formal and Semi-Formal night. We did Palo on the Monday which was Semi-Formal.

If DH really insists on being a baby and only wearing shorts I would suggest this rotation. The first night people aren't going to look down on shorts as much because some people don't get their luggage in time. This would let you see the AP show.

The next night you would be in Key West and could do Topsiders instead of Parrot Cay.

The next night would be semi-formal so he'll be in a tux. Do either Palo or Lumiere.

The next night you are back in AP which you've already done so do Topsiders again.

The next night is Mexicali in Parrot Cay so you could do that in shorts. We've done shorts on both Tropicali and Mexicali nights and saw a lot of others as well. This will give you the Parrot Cay experience.

The next night is Formal so do either Palo or Lumiere (whichever you didn't do on semi-formal).

Your last night is back in AP which you could miss again.

If you do decide to skip your regular rotation so much please, please, please let your servers know so they aren't waiting on you those nights. Also please remember to tip them as if you were there for the whole cruise because they were there even when you weren't.

Hope this helps bring peace to the house and your cruise.

You do have a veranda as I recall..you could go up to topsiders get your meal (or just order room service)and bring it down to your cabin and have a nice romantic meal for two on your veranda..if you are facing west you could watch the sunset..drink a bottle of wine or champagne..DH can wear his shorts, bathing suit or heck nothing at all ;) send DS to the kids club and just enjoy your veranda!

Mary and Ann - thank you soooo much
Im feeling better about this "pants" issue
I'm taking your ideas to great consideration
And yes our verandah is definately another choice other than Topsiders
and this would give us the choice of early shows

Glad my b'day is semi-formal night cos I want both DH & DS to be in a restaurant w/me to share my b'day cake!

(maybe I can get away packing less for myself too)

Barb,

If you want that rotation call and ask for it. It is the young children's rotation so you might not get it automatically. We didn't mind it at all, in fact we enjoyed watching the servers doing all their tricks etc. for the kids (and for us) something we didn't get when we were on the adult rotation :)

Actually Mary I did request it back in March. Was told they could put it down but the dining room may not see the request. I may try to be first in line to change rotations if necessary once we board.
Any ideas on how to make it work for the other rotations?

The dinners I would give up to eat at Topsiders are any dinners I have to eat at home. Would rather be on the Magic any time.

But back to what you really meant - We have not gone to Palo or Topsiders for dinner - we choose the dinning rotations every time. We do love the Palo brunch and will do that on the cruise.

We opted for Topsiders last year on the evening we were in Key West. We had always wanted to do the Sunset Celebration and thus we would miss our late dinning at AP. After the sun had set we made our way to Topsiders for an excellent meal. The lights are low, the tables are set with silver and real glasses. There is no buffett. You walk along the food line to view the various entrees and appiziers. You then sit down and your server comes to your table to take your order. We had steaks and baked potatos with tossed salads. The service was as good as any that we have had on the Magic in 4 cruises. In fact it was better than we received the remainder of the seek in the main dinning rooms.
I know you have to do what your husband wants but I would reccomend being part of the Mallory Sq. party and then going to dine. Without the atmosphere it would have been just another seaside sunset.
