I was so surprised with this movie. My entire family LOVED it.

I have missed the "musical" format we saw in the 80's and 90's with "Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast" among others. This movie didn't seem to have as many musical numbers as those but it still was great.

Don't misunderstand my next comment because my family and I have loved what Disney and Pixar have done over the past several years. But we are ready to watch movies with this "musical" format again with a great story behind it.

Do you agree or disagree? What say you?

Agreed.

Our family enjoyed Tangled but I personally like Princess and Frog more. What did you think of that movie?

I made the hubby take me twice. And I'd go again. LOL. Can't wait till it comes out on DVD.

Loved, Loved, Loved Tangled!!! I went in expecting a cute movie and was presently surprised! Loved the message and my daughter stated this was one of her favorites!

I so miss the musical movies too!!! We have started a collection of all the classic Disney animated movies because we are afraid by the time we have kids (in 2-3 yrs), there will not be any quality family movies.

Everyone in my family loved Tangled - from the grandparents down to the youngest boys & girls.

We all agreed that Tangled was one of our favorite movies. Unfortunately Disney has announced this was their last fairytale for now and they are planning on more action adventure movies to appeal to boys.

I think they are missing the mark b/c my son loved Tangled!! There's no reason they can't do both!

“Films and genres do run a course,” said Pixar Animation Studios chief Ed Catmull, who along with director John Lasseter oversees Disney Animation. “They may come back later because someone has a fresh take on it … but we don’t have any other musicals or fairy tales lined up.” Indeed, Catmull and Lasseter killed two other fairy tale movies that had been in development, “The Snow Queen” and “Jack and the Beanstalk.”

I hope Disney rethinks getting out of the Fairy Tale industry. You would have thought they learned their lesson about making "boy" movies. Atlantis and Treasure Planet were disasters in the box office. Tangled is a great movie btw that the whole family can enjoy.

I actually thought that the musical numbers in Tangled were great and were seamless additions to the story (if that makes any sense, haha!). They all fit and worked with the context, in my opinion at least. When I saw The Princess and the Frog I honestly felt like some of the songs were forced and I even rolled my eyes at one point and thought, 'Here comes another song...'

I don't think it is necessarily fair to compare newer movies to the "classic" animated musicals. People keep saying things like, "I just didn't walk out of the theater after Tangled singing the songs. They weren't memorable." Seriously? Come on. The Little Mermaid came out when I was 5 and while I know ALL of the music by heart now, I certainly did not after seeing it once. I do, however, remember wanting to watch it again when the credits started rolling. And I felt the same way about Tangled. The Princess and the Frog, not so much.

Just my $.02 :)

I'm glad you liked Tangled, we were so disspointed with Princess & the Frog-like one of the worst Dis movies ever, it's like they didn't even try.

I too, love the musical formats and wish there were more. Mermaid, Aladdin, Beast, etc-many of those songs just made the movies.

I liked Tangled, but I liked Princess and the Frog better. I thought the music in Tangled was just okay, and I haven't bothered to buy the soundtrack yet, and I buy most Disney soundtracks. I will get the DVD when it comes out, but it's not something I need the day it's released. I also didn't really like the characters that much.

The evil step-mother, I thought she had the potential to be a much better villian, and Rapunzel was just too ditzy for me for most of the movie. I did love the two animal characters, and had no problems with Flynn.

It also took me awhile to get into the movie, I really didn't enjoy the movie that much at all until the bar scene with the thugs, and then I did like the ending, but the begining was very slow and boring for me.

I agree that the songs weren't as memorable as the "classics" but I do think that this is a step in the right direction. Maybe Disney will see with the success of this movie that they need to reconsider the decision to stop making fairy tale movies.

I liked Tangled a lot! I also loved Princess and the Frog, I liked the animation better in Princess, and the songs were slightly better. I loved the animals in Tangled and Flynn was a great character! I will definitely buy it when its out but I won't have to have it the day it comes out. I thought Mandy Moore was a perfect choice for Rapunzel :)

I liked the Princess and the Frog a lot more than Tangled. The music was a lot better and it had a well formed moral. While I did like Tangled the beginning was really slow, the songs weren't that catchy and the villain wasn't...villainous enough?
