Day 6: Typhoon Lagoon, Artist Point Dinner, & DISbride Meetup!
We woke up fairly early and discussed our activities for the day. I had saved this day for Typhoon Lagoon and still really wanted to go. Chris on the other hand well, he didn't see why we should go to a water park while at Disney. After a couple hours of arguing and being indecisive, we put on our swim suits and packed up the beach bag. We didn't get to the water park until around noon, (which didn't leave much time for the water park, since I wanted to go back to the room and clean up before our dinner at Artist Point that night Oh, well.)
First time at Typhoon Lagoon!
We rented a locker and then headed to Crush 'n' Gusher. We rode a double raft and laughed the whole way down. What a great ride! Chris wanted to go again (see, he actually was liking the water park!), but I wanted to go on the lazy river. For some reason lazy river screamed honeymoon, in my mind.
We ended up doing one whole relaxing lap around and then hopped out to grab some lunch.
Lunch
Chris got a chili and slaw dog, and I got the fish and chips. They were both good actually, better than what I was expecting!
After lunch, we walked around a little more to take pictures, and then we decided to go to the wave pool.
Jaws of a monster!
It was a scorcher!
As we were wading into the wave pool, we noticed there was a big fire peeking up over the trees! We thought it was in the direction of Downtown Disney--so we joked, (ok, maybe prayed) it was Planet Hollywood going up in flames. I know, we are terrible. Turns out it was a brush fire, since it was so dry.
Fire!
Chris ended up going really far into the wave pool, while I kinda just hung back and enjoyed wading in up to my knees. (Yes, I'm one of those people that doesn't like to get their hair wet. And yes, I'm aware I went to a water park, haha.) He was getting frustrated that I didn't want to do too much more, so we left the park after only three hours.
Chris going really far in!
Me and Typhoon Tilly
See, I went in a little!
We headed back to Caribbean Beach, showered, changed, and then headed out for our reservation at Artist Point. So far, to date, Wilderness Lodge is our favorite resort. Chris actually relaxes and I swoon. We walked into the resort all giddy and proclaimed our love for the resort again. (If we ever get the opportunity to buy into DVC, it will be here!)
We went into Artist Point and, were seated, and received some celebratory champagne. (Yay, more pixie dust!)
We shared an order of the Smokey Portobello Soup with roasted shiitakes, chive oil, and sourdough croutons. Mmm, exactly what we served at the wedding. Good memories came flooding back and I did not want that soup to end. It's just fabulous!
Then we both ordered the Roasted Buffalo Tenderloin for dinner. Once again, delicious. Chris was in heaven.
We wrapped up the meal by ordering dessert. (Even though we were going to have more dessert in just a couple more hours with the DISbrides!) Chris had the Artist Point Cobbler with seasonal berries and house-made black raspberry ice-cream. He said it was the fanciest Pop Tart he had ever had. And that IS a culinary compliment!
I decided to try the Local Orange Blossom Lace Cannoli with mountain berry mousse, white chocolate anglaise, strawberry-rhubarb jam, and micro basil. (Phew, how about that for a description!) It was very different than what I was picturing, but a good different. It was a very light and airy dessert. Multiple dipping sauces, some which were better than others. Overall, very fruity and tangy.
We paid the tab and went down to use up our snack credits Roaring Forks. We had 9 left, so we picked out some cereals, chips and rice krispie treats that we could take home with us. Then we popped into the gift shop to see if they had a Wilderness Lodge shirt for me, but I didn't see anything I loved. Then we made our way towards the busses. We stopped an posed for a picture right before we left, though.
Coordinating outfits were just by coincidence!
We left our favorite resort and headed to Downtown Disney. It was packed and trying to find my DISbride friends in the crowd was giving me a panic attack. They sent over their coordinates in a Facebook message, so I was able to find them easier. I was finally in the presence of Jackie, Jennifer, and Andrea--the amazing girls that helped me plan my wedding, and I couldn't be more excited! It's such an odd sensation to finally meet up with your virtual buddies, but they are all exactly how I pictured them. We (and all the husbands) went into Ghiradelli and grabbed ice cream, then sat outside and talked about all sorts of things, but mostly Disney. We talked for a couple of hours, enjoying the company, when all of a sudden a group of high school girls came out and started singing. (Ahem, butchering songs ) Needless to say, we ridiculed them the rest of the night.
Please make it stop
It was getting late, so we decided to take a couple of group pictures before we all went off in our separate ways.
Jackie, Me, Jennifer, and Andrea
Funny picture that Chris shot through in-between his legs
Chris and I went off towards Pleasure Island and did a bit more Vinylmation trading before we got back on the bus to our resort. Our trip was coming to a close there were only a few hours left until departure.
