So the DVC cruise is in hurricane season .... again

Who else but Disney would figure out how to charge too much for a trip in the height of hurricane season? You'd be paying a premium for the opportunity to have your trip ruined by a hurricane. No, thanks. I'll stick with the December mousefest cruise.

Disney always finds a way to schedule events during the "off" season. September is just such a time when it comes to DCL. It's why they invited F&W festival at WDW.

No thanks....

No cruising during hurricane season for me.....

It's one thing to be stuck in a hotel room....It's quite another
to be on a ship thats rockin and rollin:scared1:

Where do you find out about Mousefest cruises?

Although I'm not a big fan of DCL generally (I think they are hugely overpriced), Hurricane Season is not the problem for cruises that it is for land resorts. We have a hurricane season for precisely one-half of the year - every single year - so the cruise lines are well-accustomed to dealing with whatever bad weather the season brings.

The only real issue with cruises occurs if a storm threatens your cruise port at some point. Ports tend to remain stationary, so they are vulnerable to hurricanes. If it occurs just prior to your scheduled cruise, they may not be able to get the ship in on time for you to sail. If it hits when you are supposed to land, they'll probably just re-route you to Miami and transport you whereever you need to go.

The good thing about cruise ships and hurricanes is that cruise ships move. At sea, they simply go around storms. A cruise ship is much faster than a hurricane and they don't go within hundreds of miles of bad weather. They usually just scoot around to the back side of the storm and have perfect weather. In some circumstances, that could mean you would not hit some port-of-call you were looking forward to, but then again you might get a huge bonus by going to a different port.

I can think of several reasons not to take a member cruise, but hurricane season is not one of them.

Thanks for that info.
Makes me feel a little better about cruising:goodvibes

The '06 was actually affected by Hurricane Ophelia.. but we onboard never had any effect, we only got diverted to Port Everglades in Ft Lauderdale instead of returning to Port Canaveral. As Jim said, they kept us well out of the way of any real storm effects :)

And because of that, we stayed a day after at Pop as a surprise!...had fun, and Continental changed our flight gratis!

I am not worried about hurricane season. I just wish that there was a member cruise at a time when those of us who teach could go.

What are the benefits of a member cruise?

Mark's a bit tired after the long drive today. It was the '05 cruise. :)

My friend and I went on a cruise one fall. When we arrived home, everyone was concerned that our trip had be ruined because of the hurricane in the gulf. We said, "What hurricane"? It really is not that big a deal once you are at sea.

for disney it makes perfect sense. in september they have to lower their prices and the ship still might not sell out. with a dvc member cruise, it will defintely sell out and they will charge a premium for it. it will be nice if we could have a 7 night cruise.

We did a cruise during a hurricane and we got two extra days at sea! JimMIA is quite correct, they are not going to risk the ship, the crew or the guests.

I was on the DVC '06 cruise also Mark and mary.
While the cruise itself was un affected, we did have to go to Port Evergaldes and honestly, that worked out quite well. DCL was soo organized and provided transportation to several places for passengers as well as a nice healthy lunch for the bus ride to Orlando area.

As far as DVc cruise-it was a great experience-lots of little extras-gifts, events, entertainmant, guest speakers and a chance to be with other DVC'ers. The season did not affect my plans. I can't live my life that way.

I would defiantely do another DVC member cruise. It is not soemthing I can do every time, but will do it again.

That said I will not be booking for next year as I am already booked on the 5-day magic on Sept. 1 ! I wish I could do both, but the 5-day is actually a better time-school wise for us and less points as well as an extra day on the Magic, which I have never been on.
