We've been to Disney World 13 times and have never done Mickey's Backyard BBQ. Have no clue how it works, how the food is, is it worth the dining credits, etc. etc. etc.

Can somebody fill me in?

Pictures would be awesome!

Ooh I'd like to know more about this too. Is it for onsite accomodation people only?

We did Mickey's BYB in October with our son, he was 18 months at the time, and other kids his age. they LOVED it! And the adults all thought the food was good too! It was definitely worth the money. The kids all loved dancing with the characters. It was a lot of fun and very upbeat! One of the highlights of our trip! We are going back again in May!

I heard nothing but great things from fellow DISers about MBYB! The entertainment sounds fun and very interactive with good food - just hope it doesn't rain because it's an outdoors event! We can't wait to give it a try in May with the kids!

I wanted to know about this too! Especially the food part - all BBQ or more choices?

We did it back in I think 2000. It was a lot of fun. Good food. If you have never done it I say definately go. It's like haveing all your firends over for Fun filled big backyard BBQ. :cool1:

I went on You Tube and found video clips of the BBQ. It looks like so much fun!!! There was so much interaction with the characters and lots of music and dancing. I made an ADR for it and cannot wait to bring my kids. They only offer it a few times a week. Here is the menu from Allears.net

Does anyone know the times of the backyard bbq? Just wondering if my 3 little ones could deal with a late night? What time does it end? Thanks!

Since we won't be going until August and we can't make ADRs for a while, I have time to further ponder where to eat. Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.....:confused3 ;) :rotfl: Anyone been lately who'd care to share their thoughts/opinions/pics?

That is a great review! I didn't want to pay that price when we could go to a breakfast for so much cheaper. I don't know now! We love that kind of food and my 2 yr would love seeing Mickey and the gang.

Thanks for the revire and all the info, We are really considering this for Sept. with DD(2) It looks like a lot of fun!

Has anyone done this in August? Will we be hot and miserable?

We did this in 2003 and while I can SEE it could be a wonderful experience (like the blog/journal linked to in this thread- which I read) I really think they should refund people or cancel it if the weather is bad- really bad I don't mean like light showers.
We were unfortunate enough to have a huge down pour that evening and it continued thru the entire thing. We weren't staying at FW and by the time we got from the all stars resort to the BBQ the rain had turned into full on downpour and wasn't letting up! Everyone was soaked, the rain was going sideways into the pavilion and anyone sitting around the edges or near the back were getting wet and so was their food (including us- not lucky enough to get in the center where everyone was trying to crowd to stay out of the rain!)
We didn't know anything about unlimited wine/beer included- not sure if that was going on back then? But DH might have enjoyed some beer that evening.. everyone was miserable, we tried to sit soaked eating what food wasn't drenched and TRIED to enjoy the show and the whole time thought this is ridiculous and they should have cancelled it or put up tarps around the sides that the rain was coming in or SOMETHING. :(

Hate to be a downer but personally we won't spend THAT much (for a family of 5) and risk that happening again. This time we're booking HDDR and since we're staying at FW we "might" just see if they have openings one evening if the weather is right- but if they don't we won't be upset about it. I'd rather not do it than risk paying that much to maybe sit in the pouring down rain and eat soggy food.
I'm ONLY mentioning this because if you have the misfortune to be there right when it's pouring down rain and won't stop- it's not very enjoyable. Ofcourse that probably doesn't happen often- most rain there ends as quickly as it started or isn't raining quite as hard and not as windy as that day was blowing the rain in on us-- but just know that is the risk when paying so much for this. I hope it doesn't rain on anyone else like it did for us. Was such a bummer. :(

Thanks for your opinion. I hadn't thought about what they do during the rain. When we were at WDW in August, it rained a bunch.
