Hi everyone...

Just need to whine a bit, and express my worries.

My poor family is SO SICK and we are only 14 days from our trip. We've had a rotten cold for three weeks. You might be thinking, why did this crazy woman not take her family to the doctor? Well, during the SECOND week of this "cold", my grandmother died in Boston, and I had to fly out there for the funeral, etc...when I got home last Sunday, we were all still sick, but we had to "catch up" from me being gone, etc. and we somehow got to today before we realized that this has gone on long enough.

My husband went to the doctor early this morning= strep throat and sinus infection. I went at noon...same thing. Kids went to pediatrician at 3:30, and BINGO, you guessed it. I had no idea you could walk around with strep and no fever...that you could be this sick, yet not be knocked flat. We've been feeling bad, with cold symptoms, cough, & fatigue, but nothing TERRIBLE. I'm just a lousy mom and wife, I guess. AARRRGGGHHHHH. Not to mention I infected an airplane full of travellers, half the state of Massachusetts at my grandmother's wake...all of the kids in DS & DD's classes at school...a 5 year old soccer team, a 7 year old baseball team, and our whole playgroup, who went to a play with us today. Gee, with friends like US, who needs enemies? Oh, and I forgot, I'm supposed to go to the PTA convention tomorrow...the PTA paid $175 for me to go...and I can't. Nice waste of funds that could have been used for something GREAT.

We are all now on amoxicillin, which will hopefully knock this stuff out.

Plus now I'm worried that just as our antibiotics run out, we will be flying to WDW, and because of our exhausted immune systems we will be more vulnerable than usual to all of the germs that party at the world. I don't want any of us to get sick and ruin our vacation. I'm sure it's my poor sick head saying this, but I just want to cry!

Thanks for letting me vent. I need a little pity party.

Chris

poor Chris! you have every right to have a pity party. on our last trip, Nebo and were sick with bad colds (no strep) a few days before. poor nebo had to drive all the way, and when we got there weere were still sick for a few days. One day it was just beautiful!! the weather, the pool at Coronado.! neithr of us felt like swimming, and we just kind of of lied in loungers by the pool feeling yucky. we felt better later, but what a shame.
bring all the meds you can! whatever helps! and do all you can now to get needed rest, etc.
If all else fails, look at it this way: "being sick in Disney is still better than feeling good at home!"
here is pixie dust to you, that you all get well!:wizard:

I'm sorry to hear your family isn't feeling well. Get some rest and hopefully the meds will help. Is it possible someone else from the PTA could use your ticket or you could get a refund?

My 2nd oldest has strep and we're leaving in less than a week. My 3rd oldest has asthma that's acting up and he's coughing his brains out. I've had some sort of stomach flu for the past 2 days. BUT I'm going to think that by May 1 we will all be fine and it will just be a memory! You've got 2 weeks, pump up the kids multi vitimins and vitimin C. When I asked if there was any way to boost their immune system our dr said kids can take 500 mg and I give our 3 year old 1/2 a 500 mg tab...(she said it was ok). My kids love those Flintstones Vits....anything chewable...tastes like candy! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you if you keep 'em crossed for me! :shamrock:

Good thing is that after about 3 days you should be feeling better, the better thing is that strept throat is not contagious after being on antibiotic for 24 hours (at the most 48 hrs). I get strept throat usually twice a year and it is amazing how much better you feel after a few days of antibiotics! Have a great trip!!

Oh dear - that is one of my biggest worries - illness before the big trip!! Hope that you are all feeling better SOON, I know when we've had strep, the antibiotics seem to make a big difference pretty quickly. One thing to watch for, just so you aren't freaking at WDW, my oldest had strep once that we didn't catch (just thought it was a sore throat etc) and it turned out to be strep, but we only found out when it had developed into scarlett fever (side effect of untreated strep) He got this rash and then a bit after that, the skin on his hands and feet started peeling off in huge chunks. Hopefully you all got the antibiotics in time, it wasn't that he felt awful or sick or anything, it was just a bit unnerving that's all...Sending :goodvibes your way for a healthy trip!!!!!

Everyone is right, you should all be o-kay once the antibiotics start working. But I do understand your concern with the low immune systems and all the germs you will be in contact with. If I were you, a few days before you leave, I would start taking airborne. It is over the counter in any local pharmacies. I'm not sure if they have kids airborne or not, but if they do not, talk to the kids' pediatrician and ask what dose to give them. Or even the pharmacist. I did that with sea sick meds last year b/c they didn't have the kids version of what I was looking for, so my pharmacist just took her weight and did some configurations and told me the dose to give DD from the adult package. Hope you all have a great trip!!!:)

Don't feel bad about it being so long! You are a busy mom & doing the best that you can. Life gets in the way sometimes - but I know that you will be feeling better in a couple of days!:thumbsup2

Take this weekend to rest, rest, rest!

Definately try to head back for naps in the afternoon. It always takes my a little while to get back to "normal" after I've been sick.

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words.

We're doing a good job of just resting today, which is good, since we somehow are having SNOW here in Colorado!!!! :scared:

You are no longer contagious of Strep after 24 hrs of antibiotics. Do rest, get plenty of fluids & all that good stuff Mom told us about. Feel better soon. Most of the 'bugs' you will come in contact with during your trip will be virus, therefore antibiotics will have no effect on them. You are ACTUALLY a GREAT mom & wife & did NOT run to the doctor & demand antibiotics right away-patients should INSIST on a strep screen PRIOR to being 'handed' antibiotics for a diagnosis of 'strep'. Chances are you DID indeed have a cold that unfortunately kicked your 'butt' & that made it easier for a bacterial infection (streptococcus) to 'set up shop'. Sorry, I'll get off my soap box now:lmao: ('Super Bugs' are just WICKED scary & overuse of Antibiotics are the problem)
HAND WASHING!!!!HAND WASHING!!!!
