Back in October, my daughter and I went to Salem, Ma to walk around and take pictures. Being the graceful person I am...I tripped and fell, camera bouncing off sidewalk. I was under the impression that it was the lens that was damaged but hadn't done anything seeing as I really couldn't afford to replace it. Well, my husband bought me a 55-200 lens and to my surprise the camera is still not working. I am so very sad...Don't know what it's going to cost me to have it looked at and fixed.

Please...a moment of silence!!:sad2:

i know how you feel. I had mine on a travel tripod when I was taking some photos for a freind. I set up my lights, walked away to fix one and BOOM, My tripod fell forward. Camera worked fine for a few days then it was camera error time SIGH! going to get it checked out tommrow. I just pray its cheap to fix.

When one door closes hopefully a window opens or perhaps a sliding glass door or maybe even a loading dock. If the loading dock is open then UPS can deliver you from your broken camera woes.

Hopefully a lot of used camera equipment will come on the market and you can turn this around into a stealth upgrade.

Even better would be the $50 dollar "oh you just need a new doo-hickey and it's fixed" repair!

Here's hoping things go your way! :flower3:

Crossing my fingers & sending good thoughts your way. I've wrecked several good cameras & lenses over the years.

Knock on wood, but my camera is still alive and kicking. I don't know what I would do if mine broke (well, other than taking a visit to B&H's website and ordering a replacement).

I hope that you have a reputable camera shop near by that you can have it looked at.

I just insured my equipment for that very reason. It's not a matter of if I'll wreck it, it's a matter of when. I decided to get it insured because I was carrying my camera in my hand and the strap caught on a doorknob and almost pulled the camera right out of my hands. I was lucky...this time!! :scared1:

Someone on here gave me some good advice yesterday to take my camera intoa camera store and make sure that it was the lens, as I assumed it was, and not the camera body before purchasing a new lens. In my case it was the lens and it is not worth repairing.

I agree, try and find out if it is the body and what it will cost to repair. It may not be as bad as you think. Here's hoping :goodvibes that you get to try out your new lens really soon.

Thank you for all the suggestions, thoughts and good wishes. I know its the camera and not the lens. I did bring it to Ritz camera and it would take about 6 weeks to send it out with a $150 down. The lady I spoke to didn't seem to have any other suggestions except that I might want to send it right to Nikon instead of going through them.

Yes I would contact Nikon, and send it straight to them.

I have a Canon and when I had some probs with my camera. I contacted them directly. They send me updates via emails of the status of my camera which was really nice.

I would send it directly to Nikon- I don't think they require any kind of down payment to estimate repairs. What model camera?

Send it in directly to Nikon. Use 2-day UPS as that is their preferred method to receive goods.
From there, you can expect it to take about a week when you will receive an estimate either via e-mail or snail mail (or both). Once you approve the charges and repair, they will put it through their service.
During diagnostics they will determine if there are any other problems with the camera that may need fixing.

All in all you can expect repairs to take anywhere between 3 and 6 weeks. I've had a camera out for as long as 6 weeks and as short as 4 days. :)

Good luck! It's a little unnerving sending your equipment into Nikon because they don't provide a TON of feedback to you. So you kind of sit there going "Hmm, I hope all is ok?"
But my experiences with their customer service and repairs to be absolutely fantastic.

thank you so you so much for all your help. You have all convinced me to send it directly to Nikon. I have missed my camera so much and can't wait for it to be fixed!

I will do that. I can't wait to get some pictures taken. I wanted to do some of the scavenger hunt pictures. I guess I could use my small camera for that in the mean time.

Thanks!! Maybe I will look into that myself!

Just wanted to update you all. I sent my Nikon out a week ago Thursday to the Nikon repair center. I received an email on Sat. stating that they had my camera and that the estimated cost for repair was $159. (including shipping back). I approved the cost it has been fixed and is on the way back to me!!

I can not tell you how excited I am and can not wait to start taking pictures again!!!:goodvibes

Thank you everyone for suggestions and replies!!

Funny, I was thinking of this thread the other night and couldn't remember what it was called. I am so glad you got it sorted. I know the feeling - my kit lens (the only one I had) packed in and was not worth repairing so I had no I had no 'good' camera since last October. I recently purchased a new lens and plan on going out with it today, so we can share our excitement. :goodvibes

Thank you for the update - many people forget. Did they tell you what the problem was?

Nice to hear you got yourself a new lens. I hope you share some of your photos. I'm expecting the camera to be delivered on Monday. I will be sure to post some next time I'm out. They did not say what it was, I am hoping that they say on the invoice what was repaired. They just call it "impact damage."

Super! So glad you got it fixed. Have fun taking pics again..

Thank you!!
