So our "guide" snapped at us today

Keep in mind that the guide is a very small part of the whole DVC experience. If you never add on you never need talk to them again. Request a new one, but don't evaluate DVC based on the this small part.

You have a reservation. I assume that a call to MS can confirm that. They'll send you a confirmation. Why would they take anything back?

Now, if you cancel the purchase and don't buy into DVC, do you think that you can still use that reservation? It's not a 'free gift' with purchase. It's available based on the timing of your purchase, etc etc.

Another caution...I'm not sure the reservation with developer points will show on the website. Previously they didn't. Maybe they have changed that but our April vacation on DP didn't show.

Good luck deciding. If you are enthusiastic with the purchase, don't let the guide bring you down. Ask for another one.

Um, I'm not sure where you are getting that I think I can cancel and still use a reservation??? I can't return a pair of jeans to J.Crew and say wait, wait wait I need those for next Friday, so can you just me use those that one time. Not trying to be snarky or anything, but what does one have to do with the other, I never said anything about cancelling and expecting a vacation, afterall if I cancelled I wouldn't be buying their product.

I know I am not getting rid of it completely, but cancelling and waiting until our refund is done, then buying again so a different guide gets the sale not her is not out of the question, at least not for my husband. I've done that before,(not with DVC but other major purchases) but it seems like too much hassle for me right now.

I ultimately want it, but I (or my husband, because I feel if you are disrespecting him, you are disrespecting me) don't deserve disrespect from someone who is selling me something. Especially when I am a new customer, and I feel they are legit questions to ask. It's not like he was calling up demanding that she sign her life away to something, he just wanted to know if there is anywhere in the contract that states we got developers, because a verbal contract usually doesn't hold up, and if there isn't one, what keeps them from taking them away, since she herself said we weren't supposed to get them.

OK, if you are seriously considering opting out of this contract so that this guide doesn't get the sale, and then buying again from another guide, then you are dealing with a level of immaturity that I would never admit to on a public message board. I'm sorry the guide snapped at you, but that reaction from you would be so over the top that I can't imagine any guide being willing to take you seriously. Sorry, that's just childish beyond belief.

Hi acejka. Are you concerned because you bought a new 100 point contract or did you buy a new 160 point contract?

If it's 100 points...... be concerned because you were not supposed to get developer points. There were a few who slipped through the cracks and got them and maybe you know you were one of them? And that is why you are so concerned about getting it on paper maybe?

If it's 160 points...... don't even give it another thought, your developer points will go no where until you use them.

If you got a fedex with the developer points info and the rep said you got them even though you "aren't supposed to," she is indicating that you got a special "deal." Maybe DVC was allowing this b/c sales were slow, or she had 100 DV points to use as a "sweetener" to close a deal that day. And if you weren't supposed to get them (and they go away--which I doubt) but your guide told you that you got them, then I also think that taking it up to a supervisor would result in your getting them reinstated. If this was ANY other timeshare place, I would say---GET IT IN WRITING--however, I find DVC to be very forthright and decent--it might be expensive, they might mess up reservations occasionally--but they are not slimy, sneaky, or underhanded.
Wait to get your PIN and then look in your account--I really think it will be OK--and DVC is the only place I would say this. best wishes, Elaine (ps--I was the one who told you to rescind the other TS and not to believe what the salesperson told you).

I respect your belief that it is "immature" but I wouldn't buy a car from a dealer who wants to be snippy with me, I wouldn't want them to get a sale from me after being disrespectful, and I wouldn't let someone get a DVC sale after being disrespectful to me.

I guess you and I just don't see eye to eye and thats cool you don't have to agree with me.

Since its not as easy for me to bow out and buy from someone else since I am doing this site unseen and through the mail, I won't be cancelling, but my add ons to the contract will not be through the same guide and I will be letting higher ups know.

I guess it's this concept of "disrespecting" - it makes you sound so much like a teenager, not a mature 23 year old who is capable of entering into a legal contract. I think that concept of "dissing" and being "dissed" is very much a part of the younger generation's thinking, but from my perspective as a 50 year old woman, it just sounds like the same "teenspeak" phase that my daughters went through.

If you want a new guide you can always call and get one - it just seemed to me to be a trivial reason. Hope the next one you get meets your needs.

Please keep in mind that you may not get to 100 developer points from the new guide if you cancel and re-buy. The new guide may not be able to give you this same deal since you weren't supposed to receive it.

I know it's difficult to reward someone that was rude, but if DVC is really what you really want, go ahead and complete the purchase. But make a mental note to change guides if you ever want to add-on.

Hope the rest of your purchase is the magical experience we all want every time we deal with Disney.

I agree with you, but I think what's different is that if you walk away from a dealer and come back the next day, or go to a different dealer of the same car maker, you can get a different sales person. With DVC, however, if you were to cancel today and decide to buy again tomorrow, the CM is assigned to you already, so you would have to deal with her again. You can ask for a different CM, but you can do that on your current deal, as well.

Like most people have said, I would recommend asking for a different CM, as the deal you have now is a steal.

:)

If I could speculate for a moment - maybe the situation played out a bit like this. Your guide gives you an offer that doesn't exist. Now I have never worked for Disney but my guess is they don't like people making mistakes that cost them money. So she comes into work the next day with a note on her desk from her manager ‘See me immediately.’ She goes into her office and gets a butt chewing like she has never seen because she has awarded you with several hundred dollars in extras that from reading other posts most people would have loved to get their hands on and are still trying. She gets put on notice or however Disney reprimands their employees – strips them of an ear? She spends a few moments in the bathroom crying, pulls herself together and goes back to her desk. The phone rings; it’s your DH. He is sternly requesting some hard documentation of this error you all know she made so he is assured his bonus won’t be recinded. Now what she really wants to say is ‘Yeah, Buddy instead of the document how about I send you a tape of the a$$ chewing I just got.’ But she doesn’t. She’s stumbles through a response and then maybe he subtly alludes to the fact that if he doesn’t get this documentation you both may walk. Well I’m sure she is thinking ‘That’s just the icing on the cake I nearly get fired over this deal because it was too sweet and now they may bail.’ And so she slips and says whatever it was that was so horribly disrespectful. Yes it was inappropriate and yes it was unprofessional but in the end people aren’t perfect. If I were you I would take the overly generous deal and not try and exact further punitive justice by yanking this sale and it’s commission.

Just my two cents. And before anyone asks no I don’t know the Guide or anyone who works for Disney.

You don't know the guide, but you have a great deal of insight into this situation, I'm thinking.

I guess I don't understand your post. Do you tip a server who is rude to you? Would you buy an expensive electronic item that was tied to commission from some place that was rude when you knew you could buy it elsewhere and get good service? I don't think the OP used the word "dissed" in any of her posts. I don't see why being bothered that someone was being rude is "teenspeak."

Maybe I am part of that younger generation (I'm 28 and Dfiance is 35) but I know my parents would have acted the same way (they are in their 50's). If you are rude to me while waiting on me, your tip goes down. This is someone in the service industry trying to make a 10k sale. They should be polite. They should be willing to answer questions. And if they are not, in my opinion, they do not deserve the commission. The commission is earned because a service was given. If the guide was rude and the questions were not answered, I can see not wanting them to get the commission. I don't see why this is immature.

Will your next deal be as good? Will you still get developer points (if I have read this thread correctly) that you're not entitled to?

If not, you'd be cutting your nose of to spite your face. If yes, then cancel and rebuy from a new guide, then your current guide won't make commision from you!

Good Luck!

The sale was complete - if you'll go back and read the thread in its entirety, you'll understand what the issue really is. This was an after-sale question, and however "snappish" the salesperson was, it was totally out of proportion to react the way the OP threatened to - cancelling the sale and then re-buying so another could get the commission. (By the way, do we even know that DVC salespeople work on commission only?)

Aren't your developers points mentioned somewhere in your purchase documents? Surely they aren't just a verbal incentive. What other documentation would you need?

Our Dev. pts. were indicated on one of the documents in our closing packet (not quite sure which one) but I definitely remember them noted on our paperwork.

I have to agree with you on this, DVCLiz. It's just a bit bizzare to cancel so you can repurchase. It would be just as easy to ask for another guide and move on. That really is a drama llama move on the OPs part to pull such a move. Not to say that the guide acted appropriately at all. I think we all agree on that point. There is a way to handle this and that is to go to the guide's supervisor, explain the situation and ask to be reassigned. It's very simple, really.

Yeah, I've got to agree with this, too. In my mind it'd be way more trouble than it's worth to go through all this added hoo hah to end up with another 100 point contract.

After all, the OP's confirmed reservation would have to be cancelled. Then, when the new contract came through, it would have to be re-booked with no guarantee that the reservation desired is still available. On top of that, there's no guarantee that OP would get 100 developer points with the new contract that were so important to begin with.

Sometimes, it can be the wisest course to move on and recognize that you got what you want (the 100 developer points) so, no harm no foul, and you're getting something you weren't supposed to get. Yeah, maybe the guide gets the commission, but so what? You get 100 developer points you weren't supposed to get, so really, you end up ahead.

If it were me, I'd chalk it up to eh, sometimes life isn't always so black and white. Ex of black and white: My salesperson was disrespectful = I'm not going to buy on principle dagnabbit!

But remember not to shoot yourself in the foot sticking to your principles, lol.
