So my DVC guide called me tonight...

I was very surprised to get a phone call from my DVC guide for 2 reasons:
a. It was 8:00 PM on a Sat. night
b. My last add-on was over 5 years ago, and we haven't been in touch since then (not that I was expecting we would be).

He said he was calling all his customers with Dec. use years to let them know about a sales deal going on right now. If I add on before the end of October, I get that many points immediately as Dec. '06 points. I'd only have to pay 2 months of the dues for those points, and they could be used yet this year or banked. If I were to buy 110 or more points, there is a $10 per point discount.

This sales offer may be old news already. Truthfully, I don't pay much attention to what is selling and for how much, since I haven't been looking to add on. But part of me would love to do a little 25 point add-on either at BCV (one of my home resorts) or even possibly at VWL. At VWL, the idea would be to just do a 5-night studio stay during Adventure season every 3 years. Of course, I realize I'd have to waitlist to buy points at BCV or VWL.

My better wisdom tells me I need my dollars on the home front instead of for more DVC points. But that phone call sure dangled temptation in my face.

Dean's correct, there's nothing new here.

For example, someone with an October UY could have purchased last month (September) and gotten basically the same deal. (They'd have 3-months of dues instead of 2).

And someone with a September UY could have purchased in August, received September 2006 points, banked them, and paid dues for only 4-months (Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec)

He's only calling December UY because those are the only members who are still in their 2006 UY. Everyone else has already started their 2007 UY. (There is no November UY).

So 'current points' for a December UY owner means 2006 points and if a December owner buys more points, they get 2006 UY points. For everyone else, current points means 2007 points. If someone with an October UY purchased, they'd get 'current' 2007 UY points.

That makes total sense. I should have been able to figure that out for myself. Where's that dunce cap?

Actually, he said that I could apply the same "deal" regarding the 06 points for waitlisted points. The $10 discount per point only applies to contracts of 110 points or more though, and I think only at AKV and SSR.

Is your phone number registered on the federal do-not-call list? If so, he can't unless he has specific business with you. However, if you contact him first, then he can contact you for up to six months afterwards.

OT: Why isn't there a NOV use year?

No one knows. I've never heard anything from DVC or any posters on this board who had an answer for that one.

Besides no November Use Year, there is no January, May, or July Use Years.

One 'possible' explanation could be that DVC was started in 1991, and computers back then wern't anything like today. On the technical side, computers are binary, meaning powers of two. (Unlike powers of ten).

CAUTION: Geek stuff ahead....

Ten to the zero power is 1. Ten to the 1st power is 10. Ten to the 2nd power is 100. Ten to the 3rd power is 1000, and so on.

Two to the zero power is 1. Two to the 1st power is 2. Two to the 2nd power is 4. Two to the 3rd power is 8. Two to the 4th power is 16.

Have you ever noticed those strange numbers you always see associated with computers? 32, 64 128, 256, 512, 1024? That's because computers work on base 2, not base 10.

You've heard of a kilobyte. Right. Well, kilo means a thousand, but in computers it's really 1024. So a kilobyte is 1024 bytes. And to make it more interesting, a byte is 8 bits.

It's a long stretch, but maybe they just wanted to simplify the computer programs by only having 8 use year months.

OK, it's a really really long stretch that that's the reason. But who here really knows how Disney thinks? It's possible they had some old, existing computer programs already written for something else that they wanted to adapt to DVC, and the computer program/database could handle 8 different parameters (meaning 8 use year months), but not 12.
