So much for the weekend :-(

I was just informed my husband needs to work one night this weekend. So that could be tonight, tomorrow night or Sunday night. Doesn't matter which night as long as it gets done.

I've been in a crappy mood and my husband has been working crazy hours and is getting stressed. I thought popping off somewhere for the weekend might be nice, a chance for us to get away and relax. But then he finds this out this morning.

And no, there isn't anyone else that can go take care of it. And since it's a night cut that means he needs to nap during the day and then of course the next day since he'll be working at midnight into the next day. So essentially 2 days gone. Some days I just hate his job. You'd think after 28 years I'd be use to it but I guess not. I was just really looking forward to escaping. :headache:

Ok- vent over. :rotfl:

I'm sorry. I know how you feel. DH has been swamped at work, as well as traveling a lot and he's very stressed. Our June calendar isn't helping, either. We only have 5 days the entire month we don't have something going on.

Can you try and plan something for next weekend?

No. He's traveling next week (more night work) and will get home sometime Friday. He'll be pretty wiped out from the night schedule, plus when he's been away all week he just wants to be 'home'. Also I was hoping to sneak off this weekend because our son is gone so it's just easier (and cheaper) ;)

Oh well, it is what it is, right. :confused3

I totally understand. And it's ok to be disappointed. :)

Thanks. It's tough when you have a spouse that travels for work. The one left at home gets tired of being home all the time so they want to 'get away'. The one that travels all the time just wants to be 'home'. It's tough to balance sometimes.
Does your husband travel often?

Exactly! It is a tough balance.

The last couple months, travel has slowed a bit, but now will be ramping up again for the summer/fall. Next week he's going to New Orleans for four days. He was thrilled to hear it's going to be 105 there today. :lmao:After that, it's Seattle (well, actually Bellingham), South Dakota and his company is even talking about sending him to Peru for a couple weeks to oversee a product he has in development there.

Do you get the opportunity ever to go with him?

Sometimes, and sometimes we all go with when we can (paying our own way, of course). Now that the kids are older and much busier, someone has to stay here to be the activities coordinator/taxi. :) LOL

My Mom is always willing to take time off from her job to come over (she lives 5 hours away) and watch them, but I hate to ask her, kwim? She usually watches them once a year when we go away and I don't want her to use her vacation to come babysit my kids.

I want her to use her vacation for the fabulous vacations she takes. Alaska, a tour of Europe, the caribbean, etc. :)

What about you? Ever get to go with?

Sorry you had your heard set on time w/DH. What about a girls night out? That cheers me up every single time.

I can relate (although dh doesn't travel..he just works overnghts full time, and part time in the mornings after the full time job. If he's home, he's sleeping). I have done a few girl's nights and they work for a bit. :goodvibes

I'm in the same boat as your husband. I work as an IT Consultant and often have to travel on no notice (in fact I found out today I am flying out Monday), and have to work weekends and nights frequently. It's to the point now where if my phone goes off any hour of the night I am responsible for answering it (which included last New Years Eve :scared1:). I know it's hard, but try to cut him some slack and focus on the positive. It's very hard for me when my DH even gently complains about these things as it's not something I can control, and wish wasn't the case also.

What if you went out to do something on your own while your husband works? Perhaps see a movie he isn't interested in? See family or friends?

True true...

... and his company is even talking about sending him to Peru for a couple weeks to oversee a product he has in development there.

If it's in Lima and he has a choice, DH likes the Radisson Hotel Decapolis. Very close to the water (not that DH has had a chance to get to the beach despite my urging him to go and get rid of his farmer's tan LOL).

OP, I know it's more time alone, but maybe a one night solo trip to a hotel/resort would do you good? Sounds strange, to go away just as he's home, but not having to take care of anyone (make meals, etc) can be nice.

Yeah, my DH is working one night also but I didn't have plans/hopes of a little getaway. Hope you get one soon!!

Aw, I feel for you. The only time, I can get my dh away from work, is if he can definately take a vacation, otherwise, he works most of the weekend too.

Does your dh work where my dh does?
He goes to almost these exact locations?
And we live in Wisconsin.

No. He works with food, not rocks. ;) He grew up in the next town over from you, though. :)

i never have a "weekend". my 2 days off are suppose to be fri and sat. but instead i work overtime. i have short days and long days. need to make the most of my short days.

Good thing. That had the makings of a Lifetime TV movie. Thought maybe you two were sharing a spouse! :rotfl:

OP, I'm sorry things didn't work out for you this weekend. Hopefully once June is over you'll be able to find some time alone.
