I've been paying over $300 per year since 2003 for a "Master Protection Agreement" from Sears. We've never used it until today. I called them last week because my dryer was making a noise, my ice maker will only shoot out crushed ice, the words are coming off of the front of my washer & dryer and I have a broken shelf in the refrigerator. I explained everything to the rep on the phone and she scheduled a repair visit per my "agreement."
The technician comes today and fixes the ice maker and does something to the dryer (not sure exactly what). However, he can't do anything about the words rubbing off the washer & dryer and he can't do anything about the broken refrigerator shelf. He called in to explain the problems and was told not to fix them because they are considered cosmetic. I politely explained to him that I didn't consider it cosmetic when it effects the function of the appliance.
I have no idea what setting I'm putting the washer or dryer on when doing laundry. I obviously can't put anything on the shelf in the refrigerator because it's broken. I would think cosmetic would only apply to scratches or dents.
The technician was really nice about it. In fact, he told me he had argued with them over the phone about it and suggested I do the same.
I called Sears while the tech was still at my house and was told the same thing. They said they would gladly schedule another appointment for a technician to come evaluate it. I told them I still had a technician at my house who agreed with me! I was then told the only other option was to call Monday and speak to a surpervisor. I told her I had other options as well....I will be calling Monday to speak with a supervisor, I will save my $300 per year from now on, and I will be letting a few thousand people know of my experience with their so called "Master Protection Agreement."
$300 per year x 7 years could have been a new washer and possibly a new dryer.
Would you consider not knowing what setting you're doing your laundry on and/or not being able to use a shelf in your refrigerator to be cosmetic problems???? Again, I think this would be a function problem.
Sorry so long but I had to vent!
Long story short....don't waste your money on a "Master Protection Agreement" from Sears!!!

it is a hefty $75 for tech to even come out and take a look
. Had to stop going to sears however when I had a twin comforter that I had washed (tag said washable) and it shrank terrible, so took it back and Sears was going to "arrest" me as I had cut the tag off that says "can only be removed by consumer"
and she said No she would have to call security and then explained to him and he understood. I was so humiliated that was my LAST business of any kind with Sears
