Regretfully, my position was eliminated and I was laid-off just before Thanksgiving. So, we decided that we needed to let go of DVC, and Disney, for a while. We will use the money to pay-off other debts to try to make life easier should I continue to find so much trouble finding a new position. Had several bites, but they ended up deciding not to the fill the posted positions after all. Everyone is being really cautious here, and we are getting a double-dip in this recession. There are too many applicants for too few positions. Never been unemployed before, so it's slightly scary to say the least.

Anyway, I suppose that DVC (in and of itself) isn't going anywhere. What it will look and function like at a later date ought to be interesting to see. I am not sure that I would want to buy in again, either direct or resale, as they continue to change some of the aspects of the contract. I wonder what else they will do in the next few years?

If and when things improve here, I'll have to re-evaluate the offerings.

Disney will just have to wait.
:sad1:

Sorry to hear about your troubles. You are doing the right thing. It's time to circle the wagons. I hope the year turns a corner for you as spring comes.

So sad to hear yet another family hurt by the economy. You are acting responsibly. Disney will be there at a later date.

My family has been fortunate over the last 5 years with vacationing at Disney. But, I always remind them that if for some reason we find ourselves struggling, that we would simply go another time. I never say we would "cancel" our trip but rather "reschedule" our trip because it gives hope that we WILL go, just at a later date.

I wish you luck, be strong and don't lose hope. Sending you lots of pixiedust:!!!

I hope that we are both wrong about this double-dip recession. But in any event, I applaud your economic sense in eliminating something that we all could live without.

I hope that your unemployment situation is short-lived. And best wishes for whatever vacation plans you have for the future. I don't think we would buy again either if we sold our contracts, I understand your reasoning.:flower3:

Be sure to come by and visit and let us know WHEN your situation improves! Once a DVC member, always a DVC member.

Godspeed Java,
I'm a firm believer in "this too shall pass" We'll bounce back and disney will be all the more sweeter.

Hope you still pop in from time to time. These boards are great for lifting the spirits.

That is a difficult but sometimes needed decision -- very sorry you had to make it. We've had a family job loss also and our points are scheduled to be the next thing to go, if things don't improve this year. Still planning on this summer's trip -- but it's likely to be the last for a while as we regroup.

Thank you for sharing your sad news -- it's important for prospective purchasers to think about that when they are in the rose-colored glasses stage of making a significant financial commitment (I didn't!).

Hope you will be able to enjoy many future visits at some point.

I tell my son this often, "Better times will come again, we just have to do what we need to do till then"! Good luck to you until things improve!

Hang in there, WDW will be there when things get better again.:thumbsup2

It's no fun to look for a job, I've had to several times. Each new company offered exciting opportunities for growth and interesting people to meet. Stay positive and stay vigilent in your search.

These are still very tough times. I volunteer at our local food pantry for anyone who needs food. Our numbers keep increasing. New, young faces for what ever the reason can't afford to buy food. It's very humbling to see the faces of the hungry. DVC will be here. Take care of yourself. I pray you find employment soon.

:grouphug:.. I am so sorry for your situation:sad1:... I have been unemployed twice in the last several years. It is a very stressful time and I am praying for you and your family. Have faith and God will provide. As a PP said, there is a better job just around the corner...:grouphug:

Sorry to hear of your job loss. Here's hoping and praying that things turn around for you very soon. Keep in touch. :grouphug:
