To cmpare a Chicago city school to a suburban one...we are the suburban. JJ is making a video to show the oppoertunities that the "affluent" suburban school has that the city one does not...ummmm, our taxes are outrageous, which is how our kids have opportunities available to them. We donate, donate, donate. Our school is over 25 years old, overcrowded and kids are told constantly there is no money allocated for this/that, even paper. Lockers don't work, bathrooms are in nasty disrepair, you get the idea. Since we have a Horticulture club and a Media class offered, these are what JJ is going to focus on.Uhhhh, O.K. Illinois is ranks 49 out of 50 states for having the least in state support for public schools.I sure hope that is what he plans on pointing out. DD is disgusted as their day is re-arranged to accomodate this visit and important class time is being cut back. The quarter ends this Friday and this is not the time to be taking time away from the students and distracting them with cameras/ceelbrity etc. You know, JJ did a visit a few years back to another H.S. in our town, one that is pretty much overkill, the Taj Mahal of H.S., and it was ridiculous. I think JJ needs to be spending his day seeing the Il Sate Gov., not disrupting the kids.

I agree....with the amount of taxes paid out here, its ridiclous. JJ should worry about all his children that are not from his marriage...he acts so wholesome and righteous.

Jesse Jackson is a joke. As far as I can tell, he has no job to speak of, lives an affluent life thanks to the donations of the people who follow him, and passes judgement on others (when he is just as - if not more - guilty of the same).

Just my opinion, but I feel as though he perpetuates racism and makes people feel guilty for things they have no control over (like the school situation).

so I'm guessing he is supporting the proposed plan to mainly fund education through state income taxes instead of Property Taxes?

I personally find that to be scary. #1 I foresee that the Chicago Public School District needs will suck funding from the rest of the state like crazy. Perhaps the CPS schools will improve a bit, but at the cost of other District's budgets.

#2 - I have serious doubts that my Property Taxes would actually see a corresponding decrease to a State Income Tax increase.

The State of Illinois can be so messed up.

I totally agree Disney Doll, and to have to watch my DD deal with her day being altered to accomodate JJ's camera time...ugghhhhh....I know a few parents who kept their kids home today, figured it is a wasted scholastic day.
Toby's friend...yep, once the $$$ leaves your hand it never returns, that and the fact that JJ has SELECT areas of where he feels the state funding should be focused....that is why he is comparing 2 schools, to show the imbalance. O.K He has already implemented section 8 housing to the alloted maximum in attendance area to our school, our diversity #'s are a wide range both race and salary, single parent, etc., to me this is basically a joke...he wants our district to keep draining the parents pockets while looking for state funding for the CPS system. Dhooooo o.k. What else is new?
