So if Blackstone owns 50% of Universal Orlando...

Who owns the other 50%, or is it split up between different companies?

The reason I ask is if Blackstone owns more percent than another entity, then they have more control over the park than if there was just 50/50 split.

Anyone know?

I don't think I've ever heard who owns the other 50%...it would be nice if Blackstone purchased an additional 1-5% so they would have more control. I guess NBC owns the other 50%.

Vivendi owns at least 20% of UO (I believe they originally bought Universal pictures and then sold off portions of the theme park divisions). Blackstone owns 50% and I'm not sure if GE owns all of the remaining 30% or not. Vivendi has the option of selling any or all of its stock every year sometime between Nov. and Dec. - not sure of the exact dates, but it's a recurring part of their contract when NBC Universal was founded.

GE is one parent company that owns NBC Universal (Vivendi is the other parent company).

It's certainly within the realm of possibilities that Blackstone could buy Vivendi's portion out if and when they ever decide to sell it.

The other 50% is owned by Universal City Development Partners Ltd., a subsidiary of NBC-Universal. GE (80%) and Vivendi (20%) are the parent companies of NBC-Universal, so they technically own it, but not directly.

Short answer: Universal owns the other half of the resort.

There has been talk of Vivendi wanting to sell it's 20% and that's where all the Comcast talk is coming from. GE needs the cash and if Vivendi does sell out in November, Comcast could sweep in buy the parent company NBC/Universal. They are saying it's because of the television and cable rights and distribution Comcast would gain...I don't think they would be interested in the parks much except for more advertising of their stuff. Now...if this looked like it was going to happen, Blackstone could certainly through their hat in the ring. It should be interesting in the next few months.

BTW...does anyone know if the Feds approved the Disney/Marvel deal yet? I haven't seen anything on it recently. I imagine it's going to take a while but was just wondering if it's a go.

I have been following the stock market for many years and the Justice Department has not denied a single merger or acquisition that I can remember. These things are guaranteed through payola way before the paper work gets submitted.

I'm not saying it won't go through...I was wondering if it had been approved yet. I think there are going to be some issues and it won't be easy or quick.

i took a tour at UO and the tour guide told us that Universal holds the marvel rights thru 2016.

after that, who knows what will happen.
