We got back from DLRP very late last night and just dropped everything and went to bed. Then in the early hours of this morning we heard the cat playing with something. Thinking it was a mouse (we live next to a field so the cat often gets mice) DH went to investigate only to see the cat with my classes pet hamster in his mouth!!
Luckily he managed to persuade the cat to drop it and he scooped it up and put it back in to the cage. There were bits of blood all over the floor and we weren't too hopeful for the poor things. Luckily this morning he seems fine, has no marks and is happily running around in his wheel. I seem to have a very robust hamster!!
As it turns out the neighbours realised when they fed the pets on Tuesday the can't have shut the cage properly and they returned on Wednesday the hamster was not in the cage. They knew he must be somewhere in the house so looked for 2 hours but couldn't find him. The cats had not been in so they know he must be OK somewhere. So they wrote us a note telling us what had happened and to not let the cats in when we got back. Only we never saw the note!
So we were wondering how the cat got the hamster, and the neighbours were worried too. Luckily everything turned out OK. I got the neighbours some gifts for looking after the pets, and then got them an extra bottle of wine to drink so they can relax after their worrying!!
