So I subscribed to Touring Plans . . . Now what?

I mostly use TP to check the wait times for various rides, but I'm still glad to have it. It gives me a place to list my reservation numbers and times for ADRs, too.

I used TP for a trip last year and liked the service enough that I resubscribed for the trip I am planning now. BUT we honestly didn’t use the plan in the park. I planned and planned and planned but once we were there we personally found it better to just wing it. But I still like the idea of having a plan. The lines app is useful for adjusting on the fly.

A couple of tips:
  • If you want to build in extra time between rides you can set your walking speed to slow.
  • You can compare their projected wait times to the current wait times on the Disney app.
  • They post an update every day of how close they got to their projections so you can research that to get an idea for planning purposes.
  • You don’t have to follow their suggestions and “optomize” your plan. You can just “evaluate” it and see how long it thinks wait times will be that way and shuffle things around. I preferred this method myself.
  • Aside from your touring plan, you can also use the dining reservation finder, which is GREAT!

Using TP again for a short 5 day trip to get into the Christmas spirit the week after Thanksgiving before the crowds start to surge in mid/late December. Been to WDW a lot, so don't follow the plans exactly- but on my first few trips 'back in the day' followed the UG plans almost to the letter and rarely waited in a line more than 5 min. It is a great tool, and we use it mostly to plan what park to be in on what day since we stay off site to save some bucks so we can go back in February and get our 'money's worth' out of our resident AP. If you don't mind crossing the park and being there at RD- if you follow their advice for even the first couple of hours then wing it from there you will still experience much more in a day than most people do that don't have a plan- whether it is TP or one of the others. Get the lines app- will help immensely once you are in the parks and have the need to make real time adjustments.

I have to say I love Touring Plans! I've been trying to get an ADR for Be Our Guest for breakfast for over a month now. I figured I'd have TP search it instead and the next day they texted me to say it was available on 11/29 at 8:30am. It was the only day I requested them to search, for so I was pretty pumped to get it. I actually was on the Disney site when I received the text so I was able to jump on it very quickly. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Its probably been the better part of seven or eight years since we have last been to Orlando. Returning in June of 18. New attractions, new FP system, new choices to make... PLUS, we're likely to take a day or two at Universal. I fully intend to get a subscription to help us make the most of our time in the parks. Some may call it 'regemented', I like to think that we're not needlessly standing around in lines more than we need to.

I'm enjoying my TP experience. It's found various ADRs for us and now I'm in the process of evaluating park days combined with FPs and ADRs. Interesting process that shows a personalized numbered park map and allows me to better understand how best to spend our park time with less foot wearying cris-crossing. I think the price is worthy.

I moved things around a bit because TS had me jumping all over the park like a pin ball machine. Nothing on our plan will make our break our trip and we are focusing on the live animal experiences.

Be sure to change the slider to "Minimize Walking" to get rid of most of the walking across the park type stuff.

If you have a paid subscription then you have access to even more than just the touring software. Something I used several times that I didn't expect to is the chat rooms. Helped me several times in the parks when I needed a quick answer. Their lines app was great also.

The Lines App is actually the reason I bought the app in the first place. I love seeing the real time analytics and knowing that there are other people probably standing in line with me that are timing the same line that I am. :) I like the community aspect of it.

I don't do regimented vacations, but the more information you have the smoother the vacation goes, whether it's Disney or otherwise. So far, I have found the planning tools and the information provided to be more than worth their price.

I agree with all the thoughts here, other than Bigred's. TP is excellent. Gives you a great overview of a park day. Very easy to make changes on the go. And all the many other useful aspects of the site and apps are wonderful. For such a little price, can't go wrong. (I don't want Len to see this part)
