Somebody smarter than me tell me if I've got this figured right:

AKV Home resort, August use year, 160 points.

We are planning to take a GV Trip (AKV) in late August 2010. It's my understanding that the points use/availability is determined on the year the points are used (travel date), not when booked. Assuming we can book right at the 11 month window, say Setpember 15, 2009 for August 15, 2010, we will need 432 points for the trip.

August 2009 160 points come on. Bank them
August 2010 160 points come on. Current year for year of Trip
August 2011 160 points come on. Borrow for August 2010 Trip.

Total available points for use in August 2010 should then be 480.

If I've got it figured right (ie - if I get it) we should be able to book this trip in September 2009 for August of 2010. Since that's the 2010 Use Year, we can use the "banked" 2009 allotment, the 2010 "current year" (based on the travel date) allotment, and "borrow" the remaining points from the 2011 UY, even though we are 23 months from the 2011 UY at time of booking, as the travel will be within 12 months of the 2011 UY.

Yes?

At least the points thing is easy huh?

Total available points for use in August 2010 should then be 480.

You won't actually borrow all 160 August 2011 points. You only borrow what is needed to make the reservation. Unlike banking, you cannot borrow points and just put them into the account.

Points are borrowed only at the time you make your reservation and then you may only borrow the number of points needed to complete the reservation.

So when you call in September 2009, you will use all your 160 banked UY2009 points, your 160 UY2010 points, and you will borrow 112 points from US 2011, leaving you with 48 points remaining in that year.

You bank during your banking window (so you must bank your 160 UY2009 points by the end of March 2010) Since you'll be calling in September 2009, you can do everything with one call: Bank the points, borrow 112 points, and make the reservation.

Hope this helps

Thanks folks - that's just waht I thought, but always good to verify with those who know.
