So how would you handle this problem

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine had an interesting problem. Her washing machine is out in her garage, and due to the cold and a couple of outdoor cats, she left her garage open one evening.

Next morning, when she was about to do laundry, she found a POSSUM in her washing machine! Nestled among the clean clothes that were apparently left in it.

So how would you get the possum out? :teeth:

Make a trail of possum food out of the garage? He's gotta come out sometime.

So...how'd she get him out....or is he still there?

Put out a dish of cat food and it will climb out itself for the kitty food. Possums love cat food, I know.:teeth:

I would leave the washer & the garage door open and let him leave on his own. Then rewash those clothes he used for a bed:p

Oh yeah, he's out -- it took three of them, but they got him out that day. :)

They tried food, he wasn't interested. :) They called animal control, and animal control said to just pick him up and get him out  -- in other words, they weren't much help.

I wouldn't have to worry about that because I would have had a heart attack upon seeing it!!!

If you can believe....I had a baby possum in my trash can under the counter. I have no idea how he got in there. I had just changed the bag a couple hours before, when I heard DD yelling for me . She, braveheart that she is, pulled the bag out and deposited the possum down the road near a field. For a long time I was so afraid to open the cabinet door to throw any trash in the can.

I probably would have gone out and bought a whole new wardrobe, and when I ran out of those clothes, if the possum was still there, I guess I'd also be the proud owner of a brand new washing machine.

I would have tried to determine what sex it was, then went outside a bit of a distance from the garage, make a sound like an possum of the opposite sex, and when he/she came looking, I would run and close the door. :teeth:

We once lived in a bay house and had a commercial crab trap which the kids used all of the time. One morning we came out and a giant possum was wedged into this thing. I don't know if you've ever seen one, but we can't imagine how he got in there. And he was mad and hissing, growling, spitting, showing teeth. We called animal control, and they said they would help but never showed up. Eventually they sent the police out who couldn't get the thing out, so they called animal control again. My dh ended up putting on super thick gloves, cutting open the trap and shaking the thing out. He growled hissed and ran away. It was odd and funny.
