Hi All! New to this board. Been a DVC member for about eight years and been reading this board since. So we are leaving in three days for BWV. Never ever gone in July. Usually we go either in October/November/February. So how hot is it? Now we do live in NC so we are used to hot summers. Next question what is opened/closed at the Boardwalk. I know construction is going on. Please tell me that the bakery and general store is still opened......

I'm from central Texas and find Orlando heat to be similar to what we feel at home in July. I would never consider North Carolina summers to be "hot", though, so be careful...

Be sure to be prepared for interaction with Orlando summer weather via heat & rain-appropriate clothing (no denim), shoes (bring shoes that you don't mind getting wet, as there are regular brief rains in summer), sun protection, hydration and touring style (avoid non-water parks mid-day).

Heat index all week here is forecasted to be in the 100's. Temps in the high 90's with very little afternoon rain to cool us off. This is odd for this time of year so plan on it being blistering. Humidity to boot. Take lots of breaks. Drink LOTS of water and I hope you packed extra underwear/socks cause you'll need to change them or do laundry in the room so you have dry, clean ones.

I love it!! We leave in 2 weeks.

So use good sense. Spend the hottest part of the day in AC or in water. Drink lots. Slow down.

We find it similar to our temps and humidity inland lower part of South Carolina. Not certain what part of NC you are from but even the Lake Lure area is a little cooler at night than where we live. We went a few times in the summer but it was just too hot even at night to enjoy. Once in a while we were fortunate enough to have some cool evenings. Now that we are older, we head to your mountain areas of Banner Elk or Highlands where the temps are wonderful in the summer and save Disney for cooler months. Just go early in the morning, rest in the hot time of the day, and return at night. It's Disney! Have fun!

In the 90's with high humidity creating a higher heat index. Those from further north sometimes think, "Well, we have 90's and it is not completely bad." The difference is substantial. When you have 90's in the north even with high humidity, it is in the 90's for only about 4 to 6 hours. In Florida, it is in the 90's with high humidity from about 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. A major issue is that the nights are also bad to the extent that you can sweat standing still outside at midnight.

It can be very hot during those long walks across the parks. Freeze water bottles overnight to carry with you. Stop frequently for refreshments. And definitely knock off during the heat of the afternoon to swim or nap.

another central texan here. While i dont foresee the heat being abnormal for us, walking around a huge park with so much to see and do can make you forget exactly how long you have been in the heat. We try to make sure and get our kids to drink water for instance after every ride or meeting. Biggest thing is, dont wait until your kids say they are thirsty, but rather stay on top of the hydration with zeal. also, we look at AC attractions as much as possible during the hottest part of the day.

pretty sure the general store is opened- what bakery? if you are talking about one of the other shops along BW then it should be open too. they are working on the units (rooms) not the bw area.

remember water, water, water - WDW water fountains are not great - but hey when you need water they are pretty good - just don't get in a long line for one - wdw has them all over the place - close to all the restrooms and sometimes by themselves.

SUNSCREEN - you will really, really need it - so make sure you have some with you - in the car - you could get burned

We are here now, and do not usually come in July. The temps at night are in the 80's! Still the parks are crowded! We'll come again, the 4th of July fireworks are amazing!

Advice about water fountain water is correct....I tried one once, and the water was warm!

It's hot enough that we will never vacation at WDW during the summer months again. Between the concrete heating up, the crowds, heat and humidity we would rather spend our money there at Christmas.

Bakery and store are open, flying fish is closed, new Italian restaurant and ice cream shop.

You can always get free ice and water from any food/drink vendor in the parks and the water is filtered.

Well we have done several summer trips in July/Aug. YEP it's hot but luckily we never had the wicked heat indexes they have been having lately. We personally have to take breaks during the afternoon at the pool or room. Unless it is cloudy it is almost too dang hot to be out in it. HOWEVER.....did we have fun??? YES WE DID. Thankfully there are plenty of spots to pop into to cool off. I LOVE spring break and Nov. Those are perfect temp trips and when we go then we stay out all day...but in the summer it is almost impossible to do that.

I'm sitting by the pool at Jambo House now. It's hot, but at least there is a slight breeze. I have ice cubes in my spray fan and it feels quite nice. I have worn a sandal all week and today my toes felt light kernels of popcorn ready to explode while watching DS do Jedi training at 10:40. Yes I said sandal (singular); the other lower leg has a fiberglass case due to a fibula fracture 2.5 weeks ago. That has been comfortable in this heat . Unfortunately, we have reached the stage in our lives when we can't pull DS from school, so trips in July will be the norm for us for about 8 more years.

Freeze water bottles, find A/C, bring personal fans, and even those cooling towels (frozen, of course). It's hot, but with good preparation, tolerable.

To avoid those warm water fountains we always stop by a CS location and ask for glasses of ice water. Seems to vary if they're passing out the smaller cups or the larger ones. If they're passing small ones we sometimes ask for a spare & share it. The ice melts really quick but it's sooo good! LOL. On our most recent trip it was in the 90's with over 100 heat index 3/4 of the week. We stopped to ask for more water about every other hour. If there are long lines just tell a CM that's working near the door or guiding people into the lines that you're only there for water & they'll let you go around the lines OR even sometimes will go get it FOR you. They did that for us at Casey's and Columbia Harbour House and a couple other places.

As another person living in NC, and a July trip veteran, I can agree with a lot of what has been said so far. We are currently having mid to upper 90s here with heat indexes in the 100s as well (and, yes, the humidity is similar). So, I would plan on it feeling there much like it is here over the next few days.

We always do afternoon breaks- go to the pool, nap, re-hydrate. Have a little later dinner and enjoy the fact that the parks are open after dark (in most cases). Make sure you have comfortable shoes that breathe (and/or some blister block), and you bring water bottles or ask for cups of water frequently.

Also, everything on Boardwalk is open except Flying Fish and the sweet shop that used to be next to it- that has downsized and moved into the Screen Door store so that space can become a bar. Also Ample Hills Creamery (Ice cream shop) has replaced the ESPN Arcade- it is open as well.

We leave in 5 days for a split stay between VWL and BWV- and I have been following the Boardwalk info thread- lots of good info on there about what is going on. I believe there is only painting around some of the pool areas outside happening on the BWV side for construction. Hope you have a great trip!
