the woodpeckers who are pounding on my cedar beams??? We have an English Tudor style house with cedar cross beams on the outside of the stucco. The have drilled dozens of holes in the beams. We filled them up with putty, but they are drilling more! I can't go around chasing them away all day!

Are woodpeckers scared of owls? I know some birds are and many people buy the plastic owls to hang up where there's been a problem with the birds.

Diane, make sure that you don't have carpenter ants. The woodpeckers often go after them :D .....

No carpenter ants, but I am sure there are long dead bugs in there somewhere! It seems to be one beam they concentrate on. We used to have a family of owls who lived here, but when they put the 4 lane highway through a couple years ago, the owls left.

Yep......a plastic owl works.

We also have a Tudor house and the woodpeckers were "loving it". We puttied the holes, hung a plastic owl up there by them, and no more woodpeckers.
