I finally get DH to agree to splurg and stay at the DLH.

I have a good rate and am ready to book. But I have heard there are going to be renovations occuring later in the year and I really don't want to stay at the DLH while renovations are happening. This is our first time staying here and I want it to be special. I call DL and of course they don't have a clue about any renovations. But if I make my reservation now I will have at least a $100 penalty if I cancel more than a week after I book my trip.

How do you not know about major renovations occuring at your hotel??? Hello.

Am I the only one feeling the frustration here?

My question is why do the renovations bother you?

Any construction work will be done during the day, while you're likely to be at the parks. At night all will be quiet.

Or is it the looks that will be marred? Possible places closed off?

From what I have read, they don't even know WHAT they are going to be doing to the place. I have read that they have put a bunch of money into it, but they still can't get everything up to date, and everything is up in the air.

That's what I have read at least. So to me it makes sense that a reservations person (are you calling the hotel, or WDTC?) might not know, if those in charge aren't sure yet.

We stayed at AKL in WDW when there was contruction just beginning on the new villas there. We asked for our view to be changed but other than not wanting to look at a Giant Dirt Pit, we noticed no additional noise.

With renovations at a hotel, it could really vary. Chances are they won't put you in any rooms that are very near the renovations. I stayed in a hotel in Beverly Hills that was under renovation and the only time that I was aware of the renovations was that there was one elevator that wasn't properly carpeted. I say go for it because you could be getting the bargain of the century (plus the number of people staying there may be lower than usual, so more and better attention from the staff).

Yes it is the looks and possibility of things not being open. I really want our first experience there to be perfect, although I know things do happen. For what we are paying I don't want to deal with construction of any sort and I dont' want anything to be closed.

I have heard different rumors about the level of refurbishment and I don't know what to believe. I can't believe DL won't release this information.

I don't think the renovations will be a big deal, as a kid I do not even remember the hotel when we went.As for wanting your're trip to be "perfect"
.I speak from experierience of wanting the same thing.I had to be careful of my expectations because the higher they were the more my disappointment was going to be.I wanted it all to be perfect. My first trip I stayed at the Del Sol which was not at all what I expected.Great location but a low level hotel by all means. If my expectations were still at the level of when I started planning the trip it would have ruined it all for my family. My kids don't even remember it being shoty.Just my unsolicited two cents ;)
