So frustrated with United Airlines this morning!

WOW I did not know this!!! So.. do we just ask them? or show them our Military cards??? (even if its for leisure??) Thanks!!

When you print your boarding passes, say you have 0 bags (otherwise you have to pay for it). Then, take your boarding passes to the baggage check people and show them your military ID and say you want to check baggage, and they'll do it.

You have to be active duty military, but they do not care why you are traveling (leisure, under orders, etc.).

We paid $238 apiece to fly from Louisville, KY. I booked ours through cheaptickets.com. The hardest thing was to check again after we booked - I knew I would be FURIOUS if they were cheaper, so I have made myself be happy with our price and not second guess myself.

I was looking for flights for Nov. last year as well as doing so this year. I KNOW it feels so much better to have that egg in your basket but try to be patient. ;) I remember starting to see fare that went well into Nov and Dec. in the middle of the summer. Some rates I've seen in the last month have gone to Nov 10th. They're still filling Summer and starting to fill teh fall flying slots. They LOVE people like us who hate not having that plan nailed down. Just keep checking as I will be. Pick a $ amount and be prepared to pounce when that number comes up (as long as it's not too rock bottom, it will hopefully come up) and try not to think about how much lower it could go, just be happy you got a good price. It's like an episode of Deal or No Deal. :rotfl: The waiting game stinks!

I'm going to move this to our transportation board.

We need a flight for Thanksgiving Day. Us Air had two times I liked for $113.... HAD... now they've been at $145! this is just for one way. Wishing I had booked one of those last month or so!

Last year got $59 on TGiving Day with AirTran, and remember being VERY glad I booked it when I did (late April) because when SWest's came out they started out HIGH!
Now I keep checking and checking.... really need US Air to go much lower!! Air Tran has a flight for I think $118 - but isn't till 1 in the afternoon, which I think is too late to depart!

Also going for MNSSHP first week of October - been waiting to purchase return flight. Last night swore, okay, tomorrow will get the 2:56 flight for $111. Well, tried today... it's now at $259 for that one way return flight! So they still had a 2:00 flight at $111.. said that's IT, grabbing that while it's there!

Guess I got spoiled... usually flying $59 each way with SW and some AirTran. $89 for one way was a LOT of money I used to think... now am at the point where $100 I see as a SUPEr bargain. ugh!!!

Last Thanksgiving was $660 round trip for family of four, and that includes paying for picking seats on Air Tran.
Now... hoping to keep it less than $1000 for the same trip this year!

Southwest has not opened up or late Nov yet, once they do typically all airline's tickets drop.

I watched something on possibly GMA this morning that said to book tickets on a Tuesday, it claims prices were lower then. I don't remember if they said morning or night though. We don't fly but I thought of all you guys here that fly when I saw that. I can't imagine what a horrible waiting game that must be if you have a set budget for air travel.

Fare Compare says the best time to BOOK tickets is on a Tuesday at 3 p.m. eastern time: http://www.farecompare.com/articles/when-to-buy/
