So we've hemmed and hawed for a few months, about applying for a mortgage to buy a house. Basically I wanted to do my research and understand all that I could, but really haven't had the time...done some reading here and there asked questions here and there.....
So anyway, we were out yesterday running errands. I have a CD that has come due, and rather than automatically renewing it, I wanted to shop around for the best rate. So we stopped at a local bank that was advertising a high interest checking account to find out the details. Whiel there, my husband asked some mortgage questions and next thing we know, we were sent over to theri mortgage department and pre approved for a loan. WOOT! Good rate. Found our credit scores were better than we thought. And we hit the number that I wanted to be preapproved for (not that I'd buy a house of rthat much, but it does open up better houses to look at). The loan officer even commented on the things that I did know (so I guess my sporadic research did sink in).
We have found a realator through past open houses, so I called her and we are set to begin looking at some houses tomorrow.
So here's my question.....aside from having a notepad with a checklist of things that we want in our home and to take notes on houses, any other tips for house hunting. I'm thinking of bringing along my video camera/digital camera, but is there anything else I should do/think of?
